Netflix HDR10+ is supported on selected Samsung TVs, not every Samsung set. Samsung announced the feature for its 2025 Neo QLED, OLED and Lifestyle TV families. Whether you can watch a particular Netflix title in HDR10+ also depends on the exact model, software, plan, title and playback setup.
What Samsung announced
On April 7, 2025, Samsung said Netflix HDR10+ streaming would be supported on its 2025 Neo QLED, OLED and Lifestyle televisions. The announcement also named 2024 and 2025 Samsung monitor models. It did not give a complete model-number list or promise support for every older Samsung television. Samsung’s announcement is therefore a starting point, not proof that a particular set in a product family or region is compatible.
Samsung may add models over time, but the announcement alone does not establish a wider, current list. Check the exact model and region with Samsung before relying on the TV’s HDR10+ logo or general specifications. HDR10+ support for another source, such as Prime Video, does not prove that the TV’s Netflix app supports the format. Samsung’s earlier Prime Video HDR10+ announcement covered its 2017 UHD lineup for that service; it is not evidence of Netflix compatibility.

What HDR10+ changes
HDR10 is a high-dynamic-range format that uses static metadata: display guidance is set for the program as a whole. HDR10+ adds dynamic metadata that can adjust tone mapping scene by scene, and in some implementations frame by frame. This can help a television preserve detail in bright highlights and dark areas instead of applying one mapping approach across the entire program.

That is a capability, not a guarantee of a visibly better picture. The result depends on the title’s mastering, the TV’s brightness and black levels, picture settings and room lighting. HDR10+ does not automatically make a show brighter, sharper or more colourful.
- HDR10: baseline HDR format with static metadata.
- HDR10+: HDR10-compatible format with dynamic metadata.
- Dolby Vision: a competing dynamic HDR format. It is not interchangeable with HDR10+.
A “4K” label refers to resolution, not HDR format. A 4K title may have no HDR, may use HDR10, or may offer HDR10+ or another format. A TV picture mode or “HDR” notification likewise does not, by itself, confirm that Netflix is delivering HDR10+.
What you need to watch Netflix in HDR10+
- A compatible model: Samsung’s announced TV scope is its 2025 Neo QLED, OLED and Lifestyle families. Verify the exact model rather than assuming every set in a family, or every older HDR10+ TV, is included.
- Current software: Install available TV firmware updates and update the Netflix app. Compatibility can depend on the app and software as well as the TV’s decoding hardware.
- An eligible Netflix plan: Netflix’s Samsung device guidance requires a plan that supports Ultra HD streaming for HDR playback. Plan names and availability vary by country and can change, so check your account’s current options rather than relying on an old plan name.
- Suitable playback settings and connection: Netflix recommends a steady connection of at least 15 Mbps and playback quality set to Auto or High for Ultra HD/HDR on supported Samsung devices.
- A supported title: HDR10+ is not available for every Netflix program. The title and playback device both need to support the format.
If you watch through an external streamer rather than the TV’s built-in Netflix app, every part of the chain must support the desired quality: the streamer and its Netflix app, HDMI connection, receiver or switch, cable and TV. Netflix’s video-quality guidance notes that intermediate devices can limit playback; its HDMI guidance calls for HDCP 2.2 or later for 4K/HDR setups. That cable and port concern does not apply when Netflix runs directly on the TV.

How to check whether Netflix is offering HDR10+
- Find your exact TV model. Check the Settings menu, product label, purchase record or Samsung account, then look up that model in Samsung’s regional support information.
- Update the TV and app. Install available firmware and Netflix updates before troubleshooting.
- Start with the built-in Netflix app. This avoids introducing an external streamer, receiver or HDMI switch as a possible cause.
- Try a Netflix test title. Netflix identifies Our Planet, Lost in Space and The Sea Beast as examples that may display HDR, Dolby Vision or HDR10+ labels depending on title and device support. Open a title page and look specifically for HDR10+, not just “HDR” or “4K.” See Netflix’s label guidance.
- Try more than one title. The format is title-dependent. A title showing ordinary HDR does not prove the TV is incompatible; that title may not have an HDR10+ version.
Netflix notes that some devices display only one applicable video-quality label. Menus and on-screen indicators vary, so a generic HDR badge, picture-mode change or brief notification is not as conclusive as the HDR10+ title label and confirmation that the model is supported. Some Samsung TVs may not show a simple HDR10+ status message during playback.
If HDR10+ does not appear
Check in this order: confirm the exact model against Samsung’s compatibility information; verify that the title offers HDR10+; update the TV and app; confirm the Netflix plan and playback-quality setting; then test through the built-in app. For an external device, temporarily bypass the receiver, soundbar, switch or other HDMI equipment and connect directly to the TV. A device, port or cable in that chain may be limiting the signal.
Regional availability and model support can vary. Netflix’s Samsung guidance covers selected devices rather than every set, and it does not provide a definitive list of Samsung models supporting Netflix HDR10+. If all basic requirements appear satisfied but the format label remains absent, the evidence may not establish whether the limitation is model, region, app rollout or title support. Do not treat a TV’s HDR10+ specification alone as proof that anything is defective.

If an HDR program looks too dark, the HDR10+ label is not a brightness guarantee. Check the TV’s picture mode and HDR settings, room lighting and available display adjustments. Netflix also offers troubleshooting guidance for dark HDR playback.

Not every Samsung TV or app version exposes this option.
HDR10+ and Dolby Vision on Samsung TVs
Samsung has historically focused on HDR10+ rather than Dolby Vision in its televisions. On a Samsung model and Netflix app that support HDR10+, a compatible title may stream in HDR10+ instead of falling back to ordinary HDR10. Without Netflix HDR10+ support, an HDR title may still play in HDR10 if the device and title support it.

HDR10+ and Dolby Vision are competing dynamic-HDR formats, not a universal ranking of picture quality. The format Netflix delivers depends on the title and playback device. A Dolby Vision label on a title does not mean a Samsung TV without Dolby Vision will display that format, and a format badge alone cannot predict which image will look best on a particular screen.

Usually not for this feature alone. First verify your current TV’s exact model, app and firmware; an older set’s HDR10+ support for another service is not enough to settle Netflix compatibility. A new TV may make sense if you also want a different panel, greater brightness, gaming features or other benefits, but do not choose an older discounted model solely because its specification lists HDR10+. Confirm Netflix support for that exact model before buying.

Do I need a Netflix plan that supports Ultra HD?
Netflix’s Samsung guidance says HDR playback requires a plan that supports Ultra HD streaming. Plan names and availability vary by country.
Does every Netflix HDR title support HDR10+?
No. HDR10+ depends on title and device support. Check the title page for the HDR10+ label.
Can an external streamer pass Netflix HDR10+ to a Samsung TV?
Only if the streamer, Netflix app, TV and full HDMI chain support the format. The built-in TV app is the simplest way to isolate the television’s own support.
Is HDR10+ better than Dolby Vision?
Neither is universally better. They are competing dynamic HDR formats, and the result depends on the program’s mastering, the device and the display.
