The Recording Academy described the album as a 14-track collection spanning a range of sounds. Its July 17, 2024 interview also documents the extended process behind the record. The interview offers Furtado’s account of making the album.
How Furtado described the album’s creation
Furtado said she returned to the studio after hearing DJs play and remix her older music and noticing a younger online audience discovering it. Universal Music Canada characterized the album as emerging from four years of artistic rediscovery. In that July 2024 announcement, Furtado said, “I heard the calling!” and “I found my voice again.” These are her descriptions of the creative process, not claims about a clinical experience.

She also told the Recording Academy that she wrote more than 400 songs during the album’s process. Universal Music Canada reported the figure as 400 songs in its July 12 announcement. Those are source-attributed descriptions of the writing effort, not a track count: the finished album was reported as 14 tracks.
“Corazón”: the Bomba Estéreo collaboration
“Corazón” was the album’s second single and one of the first songs Furtado wrote for 7. Universal Music Canada said she traveled to Santa Marta, Colombia, to begin making music after her friend Lido Pimienta introduced her to Bomba Estéreo’s vocalist Liliana Saumet. The label described the band as Grammy-nominated and said Furtado and T-Minus co-produced the song.

Furtado told the Recording Academy that T-Minus had made the beat, she co-produced the song, and she invited Bomba Estéreo to contribute. She recalled reconnecting with Saumet and said the collaboration brought in the band’s musical parts and Saumet’s rap feature. The label describes the track as using English and Spanish lyrics and calls it “celebratory global pop”—a promotional characterization rather than a definitive genre classification.
