Marvel said AI was not used to create the teaser posters for The Fantastic Four: First Steps. That is the studio’s reported position—not an independently verified account of how the artwork was made. The reports describe the online speculation and quote Marvel’s denial, but do not provide production records or a detailed workflow.
What Marvel said about the posters
In response to questions about the teaser artwork, a Marvel spokesperson told The Independent: “AI was not used in the creation of these posters.” The outlet said the spokesperson provided no further information. TheWrap separately reported that a Marvel spokesperson confirmed AI was not used to create the posters.
Hindustan Times, citing The Hollywood Reporter, relayed a description of the work as having been created through “traditional methods.” That characterization is secondary reporting; it does not identify the artist, agency, tools, or specific production steps.
Why viewers suspected AI
The posters appeared with the film’s first teaser trailer on February 4, 2025. Reports by TheWrap and The Independent said some viewers pointed to apparent visual irregularities, including a hand that seemed to have four fingers and two women who appeared to share a face. Those observations prompted online speculation, but they do not establish that AI generated or altered the images.

Gizmodo also covered the denial and the reaction. Its discussion of possible explanations for the apparent irregularities is commentary, not confirmation of how the posters were produced.
What is—and is not—verified
- Marvel’s stated position: the studio denied using AI to create the posters, according to statements reported by The Independent and TheWrap.
- What the reports do not establish: the identity of the artist or agency, a detailed workflow, or independent verification of the denial. TheWrap and Gizmodo reported no additional production detail.
- What the visual details can show: viewers noticed features they considered unusual. A visual impression alone cannot verify whether an image was made with generative AI, conventional digital tools, or another process.
The most precise conclusion is therefore that Marvel said AI was not used. The available reporting supports attributing that denial to the studio; it does not amount to independent proof that no AI assistance of any kind was involved.

Which Fantastic Four posters were involved?
The discussion concerned teaser posters for The Fantastic Four: First Steps, released as part of the film’s initial teaser campaign in February 2025. It should not be extended to every later promotional image, fan-made artwork, theater listing, or other Fantastic Four image.
Marvel’s official film page identifies the movie as a 1960s-inspired retro-futuristic story featuring Reed Richards, Sue Storm, Johnny Storm, and Ben Grimm. It lists Matt Shakman as director and July 25, 2025, as the release date. The campaign included the “Prepare 4 Launch” materials and teaser trailer.
