Yes—but this is a historical 2018 integration, not a new 2026 announcement. Microsoft Movies & TV was reported as joining Movies Anywhere on August 7, 2018. Linking the services can make eligible Microsoft movie purchases available through Movies Anywhere and participating retailers, but it does not transfer every Microsoft video purchase. TV shows, rentals, unsupported titles, and region-restricted content may remain outside the shared library.
What the Microsoft–Movies Anywhere integration changed
Before the integration, movies purchased through Microsoft were more closely tied to Microsoft’s Windows and Xbox ecosystem. The addition of Microsoft Movies & TV to Movies Anywhere’s retailer network created a bridge between eligible Microsoft movie purchases and other supported services.

After linking the accounts, a qualifying movie bought through Microsoft may appear in your Movies Anywhere library. In the other direction, an eligible film purchased from a participating retailer may become visible in the Microsoft Movies & TV library on supported Windows or Xbox devices.

What Movies Anywhere is—and is not
Movies Anywhere is a digital movie-library service, not a general streaming subscription. It connects participating retailers and studios so that an eligible movie purchased or redeemed through one retailer can be recognized in a shared library.
The service does not turn every digital purchase into an unrestricted file, and it does not automatically unify every film, television show, rental, or retailer account. Your entitlement remains associated with the retailer account where you obtained it. Movies Anywhere provides linked-library access subject to studio participation, title eligibility, region, account status, and playback restrictions.
The service itself has historically been presented as free. You still pay separately for movies purchased from Microsoft or another retailer. Its current website includes account features, redemptions, library management, a Help Center, and title-specific purchase offers and deals. Prices can change and are not a subscription price list.

Menu names can change between the website and mobile apps, so look for Manage Retailers, Retailers, or Connected Retailers.

On the Movies Anywhere website
- Go to moviesanywhere.com.
- Sign in, or create a Movies Anywhere account if you do not already have one.
- Open your profile or account menu.
- Select Manage Retailers.
- Find Microsoft Movies & TV, or the current Microsoft retailer entry.
- Select Connect or Link.
- Sign in with the Microsoft account that owns the movie purchases.
- Review the authorization request and approve the connection.
- Return to Movies Anywhere and confirm that Microsoft appears as a connected retailer.
- Wait for eligible purchases to populate, then search for a known qualifying title.
In the mobile app
- Open the Movies Anywhere app and sign in.
- Open the main menu, profile, or account settings.
- Choose Manage Retailers or the equivalent retailer-management option.
- Select the Microsoft retailer entry.
- Authenticate with the Microsoft account used for the purchase.
- Approve the connection and check that Microsoft is listed among your connected retailers.
If Microsoft does not appear in the retailer list, do not assume that an old screenshot or historical article reflects the options available in your account or country. The live retailer-management screen is the practical test.
How to verify that the connection worked
A successful account connection is not the same as every title being eligible. Verify both separately:
- Check the account relationship: Microsoft should appear as connected under retailer management.
- Check a known movie: Search for a qualifying Microsoft purchase in Movies Anywhere.
- Check Microsoft purchase history: Confirm that the film was bought on the Microsoft account you authorized.
- Test another supported destination: If the title appears, check playback through a supported Movies Anywhere application or connected retailer service.
The historical coverage cited access through devices and services including iPhone, Android, Chromecast, Fire TV, Windows, and Xbox. Those examples should not be treated as a complete or permanently current compatibility list. Resolution, audio, downloads, casting, and purchasing features can vary by title, app, device, retailer, and format.

What transfers—and what does not

Why some Microsoft movies may be missing
A missing title does not necessarily mean the connection failed. Common explanations include:
- The film is not eligible for Movies Anywhere.
- The studio does not participate, or participation has changed.
- The item is a rental, temporary entitlement, subscription benefit, or other access-based product rather than a permanent movie purchase.
- The purchase belongs to another Microsoft account.
- The title metadata does not match the Movies Anywhere listing.
- The library has not finished synchronizing.
- The movie is unavailable in your country or region.
- The film was part of a bundle whose components are not recognized as expected.
Troubleshooting sequence
- Return to retailer management and confirm that Microsoft is connected.
- Check Microsoft purchase history and verify the exact account and title.
- Search for the film directly in Movies Anywhere rather than relying only on the library view.
- Compare the exact edition, studio, format, and bundle details.
- Sign out and back in to both services, then refresh the library.
- Allow time for synchronization instead of repeatedly disconnecting and reconnecting.
- If the title clearly appears eligible but remains missing, use the Movies Anywhere Help Center and contact resources.
Account, privacy, and relinking precautions
The most common account error is authorizing the wrong Microsoft identity—especially when several personal, work, school, child, or managed accounts are signed in to the same browser.
- Confirm the Microsoft email address before approving authorization.
- Sign out of other Microsoft accounts or retry in a private browser window if the wrong account is selected automatically.
- Use the genuine Microsoft authentication page rather than entering credentials into an unofficial linking page.
- Use a password manager and multifactor authentication where available.
- Review account-security controls and revoke access if you no longer want the connection.
A retailer connection is an account relationship, not a permanent transfer of files. Before unlinking, confirm which Movies Anywhere account is connected and read any waiting-period or relinking message displayed in your account. Do not create a second Movies Anywhere account merely because the first connection appears empty.
Specific cooldown periods or relinking limits can change. Follow the restriction shown in the live account rather than relying on an old number from historical coverage.

Regional and studio limitations
Movies Anywhere was described as U.S.-only in the historical coverage. Availability is market-specific, and a Microsoft account does not bypass regional restrictions. Sign-up options, retailer connections, redemption rules, title catalogs, and playback rights may differ by country.
Readers outside the United States should check the current Movies Anywhere sign-up page and retailer-management screen before purchasing. Do not assume that a connection available to a U.S. account will be available worldwide.
Historical reports also named Paramount, Lionsgate, and MGM among studios that were not participating at that time. Those relationships are historical and should not be treated as a definitive 2026 studio list. Check the live title information for the movie you want.
Does linking give you 4K, downloads, or every bonus feature?
No universal guarantee applies. Movies Anywhere can broaden library access, but the connected app or retailer may not support the same resolution, audio format, downloads, casting behavior, bonus content, language options, or special edition as the original purchase.

A 4K purchase does not guarantee 4K playback in every connected application. Likewise, a retailer’s special edition may appear as a standard movie entry without every extra. Treat playback quality and included features as platform- and title-specific.
Is linking worth doing?
For someone who already owns eligible Microsoft movies, connecting the accounts is generally worthwhile: the service is free, and qualifying titles may become available through a broader set of supported viewing options.
The trade-off is that Movies Anywhere is not a complete backup of a Microsoft media library. It does not solve TV-show consolidation, does not include every studio, and does not remove dependence on retailer accounts, studio policies, regional rights, or supported apps.

For future purchases, check the exact movie’s Movies Anywhere eligibility before choosing Microsoft or another retailer. Buying through a participating retailer does not make an ineligible title transferable.
Bottom line
Microsoft Movies & TV integration with Movies Anywhere is real, but it dates to August 2018. Link the correct Microsoft account through Movies Anywhere’s retailer-management controls, then verify individual titles rather than expecting every Microsoft purchase to appear. The feature is most useful as a shared-library convenience for eligible movies—not as unrestricted ownership or a universal solution for all digital video.
