JOY is a 70-metre Feadship superyacht launched in 2016, but the claim that Michael Jordan owns it is not confirmed by the sources reviewed. Yacht-focused reports disagree over its owner, and the often-repeated US$80 million figure is an estimate—not a documented sale price or verified amount Jordan paid.
What is the JOY superyacht?
JOY is Feadship hull 812, a 70.00-metre (229 ft 7 in) motor yacht launched at the builder’s Kaag yard on May 28, 2016. Feadship lists its beam at 11.50 metres (37 ft 8 in) and draught at 3.00 metres (9 ft 10 in). Feadship’s fleet profile provides the vessel’s specifications, while its launch report documents the 2016 event.
Design and layout
Feadship De Voogt Naval Architects handled naval architecture, Bannenberg & Rowell designed the exterior, and Studio Indigo designed the interior. Feadship’s launch coverage quotes designer Dickie Bannenberg describing the brief as “create something totally different to every other yacht.”
The design emphasizes broad exterior spaces, four outdoor decks and wide sidewalks connecting indoor and outdoor areas. Feadship also highlights a glass-bottom pool and a foredeck court set up for basketball or badminton. These features make JOY’s layout a central part of its identity, rather than treating the vessel as simply a large enclosed interior.

Who owns JOY, and did Michael Jordan buy it?
The ownership claim is disputed. SBT Sports reported in 2021 that Jordan acquired JOY in 2019 for US$80 million. CelebYachts also links the yacht to Jordan, but describes the ownership as reported rather than certified and notes disagreement. By contrast, SuperYachtFan identifies Indian businessman Sameer Gehlaut as the owner and gives an US$80 million price estimate. SBT Sports’ report, CelebYachts’ listing and SuperYachtFan’s profile do not resolve the conflict.
Feadship’s official fleet and launch materials describe the yacht and its client, but do not name the owner. A separate Feadship article says JOY was the client’s first superyacht, without identifying that client as Jordan. The available information therefore does not establish that Jordan owns JOY, who owns it now, or whether a reported purchase took place as described. Feadship’s account of the project is useful for its design history, not as confirmation of the client’s identity.

What does the $80 million figure mean?
US$80 million appears in secondary yacht reporting as an estimate and in news coverage as a claimed purchase or value figure. The sources cited here do not include a verified transaction record, a documented price from Feadship, or an independent market valuation. It is most accurate to call the amount a reported estimate—not a confirmed sale price and not an amount proven to have been paid by Jordan.
JOY’s construction specifications do not establish its sale price, and the material available here does not substantiate a running-cost estimate. The $80 million figure should not be treated as a measure of annual operating expenses or as proof of ownership.

How fast and far can JOY travel?
Feadship lists two MTU 12V 4000 M53 main engines and a range of 4,500 nautical miles at 12 knots. That range is a builder-published specification at the stated speed, not a guarantee for every voyage; actual range depends on operating conditions and the yacht’s use.
Feadship also says JOY uses “some 40 percent lower” fuel than other yachts of its length. That is the builder’s claim; the cited fleet page does not provide a comparison method or underlying study, so it should not be read as an independently verified performance result.

How many guests and crew can JOY accommodate?
Y.CO’s charter listing describes capacity for 12 guests in seven cabins, served by 19 crew. JOY’s own yacht website also lists 12 guests and 19 crew. These are accommodation figures from the yacht’s and charter market’s published materials, rather than independently verified operating data. Y.CO’s JOY listing presents the charter configuration.
What amenities are listed aboard?
The yacht’s marketing site lists a gym and treatment room, along with several tenders, personal watercraft, SeaBobs, paddleboards, kayaks, watersports equipment and inflatables. Those amenities describe how the yacht is presented to potential charter guests; they are not an independent inspection of equipment currently aboard.
