Metallica’s M72 World Tour concert at Perth’s Optus Stadium took place on Saturday, 1 November 2025. The show is over, but it marked the band’s first Perth appearance since 2013 and its first Australian concert in more than 12 years, according to Metallica’s official tour archive.
Why the Perth concert mattered
Metallica last played Perth on 4 March 2013, making the Optus Stadium date a long-awaited return for local fans. The band announced its Australia and New Zealand dates on 23 October 2024, describing the run as a return it had been eager to confirm: “It’s the announcement we’ve been wanting to make for a very long time, and we are beyond thrilled to have locked down a return to Australia and New Zealand in November 2025!”
The 1 November concert was one of six announced dates in the region and part of the M72 World Tour. Metallica’s announcement named Suicidal Tendencies and Evanescence as guest acts for the run; the official Perth archive also lists both among the show’s other acts. Those sources do not establish performance order or set times.
What Metallica played
Metallica’s official Perth show notes record a 15-song set drawing on nine albums. The band marked three songs as Perth firsts: “Holier Than Thou,” “Moth Into Flame” and “Lux Æterna.” The notes also say “Wherever I May Roam” had not been played in Perth for more than 27 years.
