You can use FFmpeg to loop a bhajan video into MediaMTX, then configure MediaMTX to forward the stream to YouTube over RTMPS. The setup needs a compatible audio-and-video source, a current YouTube ingest URL, a private stream key, and ongoing monitoring. It does not by itself guarantee uninterrupted streaming or a complete YouTube replay.
How the FFmpeg–MediaMTX–YouTube setup works
FFmpeg reads and loops your recording in real time, publishing it to a MediaMTX path. MediaMTX then forwards that path to the YouTube ingest endpoint. MediaMTX describes itself as a live media server and proxy for publishing, reading, proxying, recording, and playing back real-time audio and video. See the MediaMTX introduction.
This arrangement separates the file playback from the YouTube connection: FFmpeg publishes to MediaMTX, and MediaMTX handles forwarding. Both processes still need a machine or server that remains running, network connectivity, and monitoring. The documentation provides examples, not a measured reliability comparison or a guarantee that any file will loop seamlessly.
Prepare the bhajan recording and YouTube stream
Check rights and source media
- Use recordings and compositions that you have the right to broadcast. A technical setup cannot establish whether a particular recording or composition is cleared for your channel.
- Use a source with compatible audio and video tracks. YouTube requires both; MediaMTX warns that a video-only feed may be silently rejected.
- Even if the visual is largely static, send a valid video track and test the actual encoded output. Do not assume an audio-only feed or still image will be accepted as configured.
Get YouTube’s current ingest details
In YouTube Live Control Room, obtain the current stream URL and key for the channel. Do not rely on an endpoint copied from an old example: MediaMTX notes that the URL shown in its forwarding guide may have changed. Prefer RTMPS, the encrypted form of RTMP. YouTube recommends RTMPS for secure delivery in its RTMPS guidance.

Treat the stream key like a password. Do not put it in a public repository, tutorial, screenshot, or publicly accessible configuration. If it is compromised, reset it in Live Control Room. YouTube’s live settings guidance covers stream setup.
Publish a looped file to MediaMTX with FFmpeg
Start MediaMTX using its current installation and configuration instructions. Then run the following documented FFmpeg example on the same machine, replacing file.mp4 with your source file:
ffmpeg -re -stream_loop -1 -i file.mp4 -c copy -f rtsp rtsp://localhost:8554/mystream-re paces file input in real time, -stream_loop -1 repeats it indefinitely, and -c copy passes through the existing streams rather than encoding them again. The copy approach depends on the input streams being compatible with the receiving workflow. Inspect your source and test the actual output. If audio or video is absent or incompatible, this command alone will not repair it; choose and configure a suitable encoding workflow, then verify both tracks in YouTube’s preview.
Optional RTMP publishing example
MediaMTX also documents publishing the looped file to its RTMP listener:
ffmpeg -re -stream_loop -1 -i file.mp4 -c copy -f flv rtmp://localhost:1935/mystreamUse the RTSP or RTMP publishing route supported by your MediaMTX configuration; these are alternatives for getting the file into MediaMTX, not YouTube ingest URLs.

Configure MediaMTX to forward the path to YouTube
Configure the path you published—mypath below is illustrative—to forward to the current RTMPS destination and stream key. In MediaMTX’s documented format, the key follows the destination URL after #:

- dest: rtmps://CURRENT_YOUTUBE_INGEST_URL#STREAM_KEYReplace both placeholders with the current values from Live Control Room; do not paste a sample or historical ingest endpoint without verifying it. Keep the key private wherever this configuration is stored. The forwarding syntax and RTMPS option are described in the MediaMTX forwarding guide.
Set encoder parameters and test before going public
The documented FFmpeg examples use stream copy, so they do not set an encoder, bitrate, resolution, or keyframe interval. If your source needs encoding, use YouTube’s current recommendations for the codec, output resolution, frame rate, and available upload bandwidth rather than assuming a bhajan-specific preset exists.

- YouTube’s current RTMP/RTMPS guidance lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 for video, and AAC or MP3 for audio.
- Use constant bitrate (CBR) encoding. YouTube recommends a two-second keyframe interval and says not to exceed four seconds.
- For stereo audio, YouTube’s advanced recommendations specify 44.1 kHz and 128 Kbps.
- Choose a resolution and bitrate from YouTube’s published ranges for the selected codec and frame rate, and ensure your actual upload connection can sustain the stream.
Check YouTube’s encoder settings and bitrate guidance for current values. YouTube advises testing with audio and motion similar to the intended stream and watching stream health and messages during the event.
- Start FFmpeg and confirm that MediaMTX receives the intended path.
- Start or verify forwarding, then inspect the YouTube Live Control Room preview and stream-health messages.
- Confirm that both audio and video are present, intelligible, and stable. Test with representative bhajan audio and the visual style you plan to broadcast.
- Run a representative test before making the stream public. A successful command launch is not proof that YouTube is receiving a healthy feed.
Plan continuity, monitoring, and replays
A 24/7 stream requires more than a looping command: FFmpeg, MediaMTX, the host, and the network connection must keep working. Monitor stream health and audio/video quality, decide how you will detect and restart failed processes, and test your recovery procedure. YouTube’s livestreaming tips recommend monitoring and checking local archive growth and integrity, as well as testing failover.
Do not rely on YouTube for a full-day archive
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, but a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. That 12-hour threshold is not an uptime guarantee. If a replay matters, record locally and verify that the file is growing and remains usable. See YouTube’s archive guidance.

Do not promise full-day DVR rewind
YouTube DVR lets viewers pause and rewind during a live stream, but rewind can be limited or unavailable on very long streams, including streams longer than 12 hours. Enabling DVR in live settings does not remove that limitation. Check YouTube’s DVR guidance and the live settings before making promises about viewer controls.
Troubleshooting common failures
