What happened, and what did Sweet report early in recovery?
October 2024: stroke while touring
Sweet suffered a stroke in Toronto in October 2024 while on tour. Madonna Rehabilitation Hospitals reported that it affected his left side and speech, and described his transfer to its Omaha rehabilitation program. December 2024: Sweet’s first-person account
In a written update that December, Sweet recalled experiencing intense cold, sweating, loud white noise and disturbed vision. He described double vision and numbness on his left side. He also wrote that rehabilitation involved relearning how to walk and bathe, and expressed a wish to keep making music and art. “I’ve lived through the day where I realized I may never play guitar again,” he wrote. What did the later health updates say?
June 2025: a manager’s account
A separate update from Sweet’s manager, quoted by Best Classic Bands, said that Sweet was wheelchair-bound because of coordination problems and could not sing at that time. The manager also said doctors could not provide a prognosis. These are statements reported in June 2025, not a current assessment. Best Classic Bands report quoting the manager’s update.
March 24, 2026: Sweet’s latest located update
In a personal update dated March 24, 2026, Sweet described severe essential tremor affecting his head and left side, symptoms involving his mouth and right arm and foot, compromised taste and swallowing, and ongoing aspiration risk. He said an eye doctor at Truhlsen Eye Institute told him his nystagmus was in remission. Sweet also said he had not regained his pre-stroke ability to walk, play guitar, sing or draw: “I have still not succeeded at regaining the ability to walk, to play guitar, to sing or to draw as I was able to before the stroke.” He added, “But I do want friends and fans alike to know that on most days I’m ok.” Best Classic Bands report quoting Sweet’s March 24, 2026 update.

What can and cannot be concluded about his health?
The March 24, 2026 update is the latest substantive condition report located for this article; it does not establish how Sweet is doing after that date. The accounts describe his own reported experience and statements from his representatives, not an independent medical assessment. His manager’s June 2025 update said doctors could not provide a prognosis, and the available information does not support predicting whether or when Sweet will return to performing.
