What is season 2 about?
Season 2 begins after the first season reveals that Matty is not simply the unassuming attorney she appears to be. She is actually Madeline Kingston, a wealthy heiress who joined Jacobson Moore under the name “Matty Matlock.” Her hidden mission is to investigate the opioid-related death of her daughter, Ellie, and uncover the law firm’s connection to that crisis.
The new season follows Matty as she tries to keep her constructed identity intact while deciding which colleagues can be trusted with the truth. Her investigation increasingly focuses on Wellbrexa, the company and cover-up at the center of the wider conspiracy.
Olympia Lawrence remains Matty’s most important professional ally, but their partnership is repeatedly tested. Olympia’s former husband, Julian Markston, is the son of Howard “Senior” Markston, the powerful figure connected to the Wellbrexa matter. Julian’s disclosures place Olympia in an uncomfortable position, caught between personal loyalty, professional ethics, and the investigation she is pursuing with Matty.

How season 2 develops the main relationships
Matty and Olympia
Matty and Olympia remain the show’s central alliance, but the Wellbrexa document and Julian’s connection to the case make trust more difficult. Each woman must protect the other while also managing secrets that could damage both their careers and the investigation.
Olympia and Julian
Olympia’s relationship with her ex-husband becomes inseparable from the larger conspiracy. Julian’s family connection to Senior gives him access to information, but it also makes him a potential threat to Olympia and Matty’s plans.
Matty and her family
Matty’s investigation is not confined to the office. Questions surrounding Alfie’s father, Edwin’s place in the deception, and the couple’s 50th anniversary show how much pressure the case places on her family life.
Sarah and the firm
Sarah’s growing involvement in the firm’s secrets brings her closer to Olympia while also threatening their relationship. Her confession in the Christmas episode becomes one of the season’s important personal turning points.
