He recalls thanking her for being his partner and saying he did not want her blindsided; he thought they would politely end things at the altar. Ashley says she still wanted to complete the experience and give him a chance to show he could be the partner she wanted.
What Alex says he told Ashley privately
In a March 4, 2026 interview with Netflix Tudum, Alex said the conversation happened the day before the wedding. He recalled telling Ashley, “Hey, we didn’t get there, but I thank you for being my partner through this.” He said he wanted to avoid blindsiding her and remembered her replying, “Okay, I respect that.”
Alex said he expected them to acknowledge at the ceremony that the relationship “wasn’t it.” This is his account of a conversation that took place off-camera, not footage of the exchange. Netflix Tudum’s interview with Alex and Ashley is the source for both participants’ recollections.
Why Ashley still went to the altar
Ashley gave a different account of her reason for continuing. She said she needed to see the experiment through and wanted to give Alex the opportunity to show he could be the man she deserved. She described herself as someone who would work through an argument rather than run away or ghost him.

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
That helps explain why Alex’s recollection of an expected, polite ending does not mean Ashley viewed the decision as settled. Her stated aim was to reach the ceremony and make her own decision there.
What happened at the ceremony
According to the Tudum interview, Ashley ended the engagement at the altar before Alex could answer. She described disappointment with intimacy after they returned to Ohio and raised concerns about Alex’s past, honesty, and integrity. She also said she wanted viewers to see that someone can say no even on a wedding day.

Their explanations for the breakup were not the same. Ashley described their lives and non-negotiables as very different, said she believed he had lied, and said she wanted a more ambitious, driven partner with career stability and a family. Alex cited physical compatibility as an obstacle and said Ashley was not the type of woman he wanted physically. These are each participant’s explanations, not independent findings about the other.
Why Alex’s later account sounds different
Netflix Tudum’s reunion recap says Ashley drafted a speech in her Notes app at 6 a.m. because she did not want to stand at the altar and be rejected. The recap also says Alex described the altar moment as blindsiding him. That sits in tension with his earlier interview, where he said he expected them to end things politely. The published accounts do not resolve the discrepancy, so it is not possible to say from them exactly what Alex expected or understood before the ceremony.

In a separate February 18 interview, Alex discussed intimacy tapering off, disagreements about where to live and work, and the argument over a refrigerator water bottle as a symptom of larger tensions. He also addressed his conversation with Brittany in Mexico, saying he did not consider it flirting at the time, though he understood how it might look that way. These details provide context for the relationship but do not settle either person’s claims about the breakup. Read Alex’s earlier Netflix Tudum interview.

The clearest answer is that Alex says he tried to prepare Ashley the day before the wedding by acknowledging that they had not made the relationship work. He recalls that she respected what he said, while Ashley says she still wanted to see the process through and give him a chance. She ultimately said no at the altar. The private conversation is reported through Alex’s recollection, and the later reunion account of him feeling blindsided remains unexplained.

Netflix Tudum’s Season 10 reunion recap and cast update offer further post-season context. The cast update describes Ashley as single and looking for a calmer, clearer relationship; although its heading describes Alex as single, it quotes him keeping his current relationship status private, so his status should not be treated as definitively established.
