Linda Cardellini plays Margo in No Good Deed, Judy Hale in Dead to Me and Lindsay Weir in Freaks and Geeks. The three roles put her in sharply different stories: a Los Angeles house-buying dark comedy, a friendship shaped by grief, and a coming-of-age comedy set in the early 1980s. Margo is also a deliberate departure from Judy—and a reunion with Dead to Me creator Liz Feldman.
No Good Deed: Margo as a change of pace
In Netflix’s No Good Deed, Cardellini plays Margo, a Los Angeles character in a dark comedy about three families competing to buy the same house. The series has eight half-hour episodes, all of which were available on Netflix when Netflix Tudum reported on the show on Dec. 16, 2024.
Creator and showrunner Liz Feldman conceived Margo while working on the final season of Dead to Me. Cardellini told Tudum she had asked to play the “complete opposite” of Judy, while Feldman described the character she wanted as a “badass bitch.” That contrast makes Margo a useful starting point for understanding how distinct Cardellini’s parts in the two Feldman series are.
Dead to Me: Judy Hale and a friendship at the center
Cardellini plays Judy Hale opposite Christina Applegate’s Jen Harding in Dead to Me. Across three seasons, the series follows their friendship, with grief among its central concerns. Netflix Tudum’s Nov. 18, 2022 interview identifies the actors and discusses the show’s ending.

The connection between the series extends beyond Cardellini’s casting. Feldman created Dead to Me and later created No Good Deed. In Netflix’s announcement of the latter, Feldman said it grew out of her pandemic-era house search: “No Good Deed was inspired by my many late nights during the early pandemic maniacally searching Zillow listings for a way out of my house.” About Netflix’s announcement also identifies Feldman as creator and executive producer.
Freaks and Geeks: Lindsay Weir in an earlier era
Before the two Netflix series, Cardellini played Lindsay Weir in Freaks and Geeks, a single-camera comedy set in the early 1980s. Amblin describes Lindsay’s changing social world alongside the experiences of her younger brother Sam and his friends. The series ran for one season and 18 episodes from 1999 to 2000, according to Amblin’s series page.

The show’s setting and ensemble give Lindsay a different place in the story from Judy and Margo: she is a teenager negotiating her place in a shifting social world, rather than an adult at the center of a friendship drama or a house-buying comedy. Amblin notes that the series continued to find an audience through home video and streaming. The Television Academy’s Cardellini biography also identifies Lindsay as her early prominent role and notes the series’ Emmy win for Outstanding Casting for a Comedy Series.

Taken together, the roles show Cardellini in three different kinds of ensemble: a house-sale rivalry, an intimate friendship story, and a school-age coming-of-age comedy. The clearest direct comparison is between Judy and Margo, because Feldman and Cardellini explicitly framed Margo as a departure from Judy. Lindsay, meanwhile, belongs to an earlier point in Cardellini’s career and a very different television setting.
