After Linkin Park announced Emily Armstrong as its new vocalist in 2024, reports about her attendance at a Danny Masterson court hearing prompted criticism. Armstrong said she had gone to one early hearing to support someone she considered a friend, later realized she had misjudged him, and had not spoken with him since details emerged. Her September 2024 response did not address her alleged ties to Scientology, so it does not establish her current religious affiliation.
Why did Emily Armstrong face criticism?
The criticism followed Linkin Park’s 2024 announcement that Armstrong would join the band as a vocalist. Reporting drew attention to her having attended a court hearing connected with Danny Masterson, as well as allegations of ties to the Church of Scientology. Exclaim!’s September 7, 2024 report describes the hearing attendance and Armstrong’s response; it does not establish her current relationship with Scientology. Exclaim!, September 7, 2024
Critics characterized the reported attendance as support for Masterson. That characterization is not proof that Armstrong endorsed his crimes, nor does it establish what she knew at the time. Armstrong’s own explanation was that she attended one early hearing as an observer after being asked to support someone she considered a friend.
What did Armstrong say?
In an Instagram story published September 6, 2024, Armstrong said she later concluded that she had misjudged the person she had supported and had not spoken with him since details emerged. Exclaim! reproduced this sentence from her statement: “I do not condone abuse or violence against women, and I empathize with the victims of these crimes.” Exclaim!, September 7, 2024

What remains unconfirmed about Scientology?
The September 2024 report says Armstrong did not address her alleged Scientology ties in her statement. The reporting cited here does not establish whether she is currently affiliated with the Church of Scientology, and her silence on that subject is not evidence either way. Claims about her present beliefs, membership, motives, or pressure should not be treated as confirmed on this basis.
