Amazon added a “Get Book” button to the Kindle app for iPhone and iPad, giving readers a shortcut from a book’s details page to its Amazon listing. It does not complete a purchase inside the app: checkout still happens on Amazon’s website in a browser. The feature was initially reported for the U.S. App Store version of Kindle, so availability can depend on your storefront and app build.
What the “Get Book” button does
Previously, readers could search for a title in Kindle but had to leave the app and find Amazon’s store themselves to buy an ebook. With the reported change, a reader can search in Kindle, open a book’s information page and tap Get Book. Kindle then opens that book’s Amazon listing in a web browser, where the reader signs in if needed and completes the purchase. The book can then be read in Kindle.

That last point matters: this is a link to an external checkout, not a Kindle Store checkout built into iOS. Amazon’s website handles the order, payment and account authentication. The feature makes the route easier to find; it does not turn the Kindle app into a full storefront or change where payment takes place. The original report describes the button and browser handoff.

How to buy a Kindle ebook from the app
- Update Kindle from the U.S. App Store if an update is available, then close and reopen the app.
- In Kindle on your iPhone or iPad, use search to find the book.
- Open the book’s information or details page and tap Get Book.
- When the Amazon listing opens in your browser, check that it is the intended marketplace and sign in to the Amazon account associated with your Kindle library.
- Complete the purchase on Amazon’s website. Return to Kindle and refresh or sync the library if the book does not appear promptly.
The reported rollout covered both iPhone and iPad versions of Kindle. The exact screens and availability may vary by app build, title and account; the button should not be expected for every format or Kindle-related product.

Who can see it?
The feature was initially reported for the U.S. App Store storefront. That describes the store region for the app, not simply a reader’s physical location. Readers using another country’s App Store may not see the button, and the original rollout report said other regional versions continued without the same link. Apple’s current App Review Guidelines distinguish the U.S. storefront from other storefronts on calls to action for alternative purchasing methods. Availability and wording can still change with later app or policy updates, so an older report is not a guarantee that every current installation has the control.
Why the button appeared after Apple’s rule change
On May 1, 2025, Apple announced updates to its App Review Guidelines following a U.S. court decision concerning buttons, external links and other calls to action for alternative purchasing methods. The change was relevant to the U.S. storefront. Apple’s announcement identifies the guideline update and its connection to the court decision.

Kindle is a reading app for digital books, while Amazon sells Kindle ebooks through its own store. The new link gives the app a more visible path to that web store under the changed U.S. rules. It is safest to describe the result narrowly: Amazon added a link to its own web checkout after Apple updated its U.S.-storefront guidelines. This does not establish that every app may now link to any checkout worldwide, or that this particular feature is permanent.
If “Get Book” is missing—or the book does not arrive
- Check the storefront: The initial rollout was reported for the U.S. App Store version. A different storefront may not have the feature.
- Update and reopen Kindle: Install any available update and fully close and reopen the app before checking again.
- Check the item: The control may not apply to a title that is unavailable as a standard Kindle ebook in your marketplace.
- Check the browser account and marketplace: The browser may be signed in to a different Amazon account or regional store than the one used by Kindle. A purchase made under another account may not appear in the library you expect.
- Refresh the library: After purchase, return to Kindle’s Library and pull down to refresh or use its sync control, if shown. If the title is still missing, confirm it appears in the Amazon account’s Kindle or digital-content library and that Kindle is signed in to that same account.
- Restart before making disruptive changes: Close and reopen Kindle if needed. Avoid deregistering the app or changing accounts casually; those actions can affect downloaded books and device settings.
Amazon listing prices, promotions, taxes and availability can vary by country, marketplace, title and account. The button itself does not promise a particular price or that every book can be purchased this way.

What has—and has not—changed
For eligible users, the practical gain is convenience: the book page in Kindle can send readers straight to the corresponding Amazon listing instead of making them start a separate store search. Kindle remains the place to access and read the title, while Amazon’s website remains the place where the purchase is completed. If the button is unavailable in your storefront or for a particular title, the usual Amazon store route remains the fallback.
