Kanye West was not kicked out of the 2025 GRAMMY Awards after appearing on the red carpet with Bianca Censori. He was connected to the ceremony as a Best Rap Song nominee for “Carnival,” but GRAMMYs executive producer Raj Kapoor said West and Censori had no seats inside the main televised show because West was not performing, presenting, or appearing in a televised category. Follow-up reporting said the couple left after posing for photographs rather than being forcibly removed.
Kanye West was not kicked out of the 2025 GRAMMY Awards after appearing on the red carpet with Bianca Censori on February 2, 2025. Follow-up reporting said West was an invited guest connected to the ceremony, but GRAMMYs executive producer Raj Kapoor explained that West and Censori did not have seats inside the main televised show.
Kapoor’s explanation was tied to the production’s seating plan—not a reported punishment. West was not performing, presenting, or appearing in a category scheduled for the televised broadcast. He was, however, a legitimate nominee: West was credited as a songwriter on “Carnival,” which was nominated for Best Rap Song.
What happened at the 2025 GRAMMYs?
West and Censori made a surprise appearance on the GRAMMYs red carpet in Los Angeles on February 2. Censori initially wore a fur coat, which she removed while posing for photographers, revealing a transparent outfit. The image quickly became one of the night’s dominant entertainment-news stories.

After the photographs, the couple left. Early reports circulated that they had arrived without an invitation and had been escorted away by police or security. Later accounts disputed that version. TMZ reported that West was an invited guest and was not forcibly removed. A separate source cited in follow-up coverage said the couple got into their car and departed after completing the red-carpet appearance.
Those reports should be attributed rather than treated as independently verified video evidence. The most defensible conclusion is that West and Censori appeared for the red-carpet portion and left voluntarily, not that security threw them out of the awards show.
Why didn’t Kanye West have a seat inside the main show?
Raj Kapoor, the GRAMMYs executive producer, provided the clearest explanation in comments to People, as reported by Us Weekly. Kapoor said West and Censori did not have seats inside the main televised ceremony because West had no role in that broadcast.
According to Kapoor’s explanation, the arena’s seating is organized around the television production. Tables are numbered, and producers need to know where artists connected to televised categories will be located. Performers, presenters, and nominees appearing in the main broadcast are therefore handled differently from guests associated with other parts of the event.

West was not scheduled to perform or present. His nomination was in Best Rap Song, a songwriter-focused category that was part of the pre-telecast ceremony rather than the televised main show. That distinction explains how he could be connected to the GRAMMYs as a nominee while not having a place inside the broadcast’s arena seating.
West was nominated for “Carnival”
The lack of a main-show seat does not mean West was unrelated to the 2025 GRAMMYs. The official Recording Academy listings identify him among the credited songwriters on “Carnival,” which was nominated for Best Rap Song.
“Carnival” did not win. Kendrick Lamar won Best Rap Song for “Not Like Us.” West’s nomination was real, but a nomination alone did not guarantee a seat inside the televised ceremony. Kapoor’s comments indicate that the production’s seating decisions depended on a person’s role in the broadcast, as well as the category and ceremony in which that role occurred.
Was Kanye West inside the GRAMMYs before he left?
The available reporting does not establish exactly where West went after the red-carpet appearance. The main televised ceremony took place at Crypto.com Arena, while the pre-telecast ceremony was held separately nearby at the Peacock Theater.

Kapoor said he was unsure whether West attended the pre-telecast event. That means it would be too strong to state that West definitely entered the pre-telecast ceremony, went backstage, or sat elsewhere inside the arena. The evidence supports a narrower account: he appeared on the red carpet, did not have a seat in the main televised show, and later left.
| Question | What the reporting supports |
|---|---|
| Was West connected to the ceremony? | Yes. He was credited as a songwriter on Best Rap Song nominee “Carnival.” |
| Was he on the red carpet? | Yes. West and Bianca Censori posed for photographers on February 2, 2025. |
| Was he forcibly removed? | Follow-up reports said no; TMZ reported that he was invited, and another cited source said the couple left in their car. |
| Did he have a seat inside the televised show? | No, according to executive producer Raj Kapoor’s explanation. |
| Did he attend the pre-telecast ceremony? | That remains unconfirmed. Kapoor said he did not know whether West attended. |
How the “kicked out” story developed
The initial narrative combined several visually striking facts: West and Censori made an unexpected red-carpet appearance, Censori’s outfit drew intense attention, and the couple left soon afterward. Reports then suggested that they had been escorted out.
Subsequent reporting separated those events. The outfit generated controversy, but no cited account establishes that it caused a security intervention or directly prompted the departure. Likewise, the fact that West did not appear inside the televised ceremony does not prove that he was banned or removed. Kapoor framed the missing seat as a logistical decision based on the broadcast’s production needs.
It is also important not to turn “no seat inside the main show” into “not invited to the GRAMMYs.” TMZ’s follow-up report described West as an invited guest, while Kapoor discussed why he was not placed in the televised seating area. Those are different claims.

The most accurate way to describe what happened
A concise, evidence-based summary is:
Kanye West appeared at the 2025 GRAMMYs red carpet with Bianca Censori but was not seated inside the main televised ceremony. He was a Best Rap Song nominee for “Carnival,” yet executive producer Raj Kapoor said West was not performing, presenting, or appearing in a televised category. Follow-up reporting said West and Censori left rather than being forcibly removed.
That wording preserves the important distinctions. West was not simply a random uninvited attendee, but his nomination did not give him a main-show seat. And although early reports described an escort out, the later and more specific accounts do not support saying that he was kicked out.

Readers interested in the event as a piece of music-history memorabilia may find the 67th GRAMMY Official Program Book relevant. The GRAMMY Museum Store listed the program book among its official ceremony products, alongside other GRAMMY posters, apparel, and memorabilia. Availability and retailer terms can change, so the book should be treated as a commemorative item—not as evidence of West’s seating arrangements or movements that night.

The Bottom Line

He appeared on the red carpet, was connected to the ceremony through his Best Rap Song nomination for “Carnival,” and then left with Bianca Censori. GRAMMYs executive producer Raj Kapoor said the couple had no seats inside the main televised show because West had no performance, presenting, or televised-category role. Whether he attended the separate pre-telecast ceremony is still unclear.
