Cellar Door turns a dream-house offer into a chilling bargain: a grieving couple can have a luxurious home, but they must never open the cellar door. Lionsgate’s first trailer, released September 24, 2024, introduces the thriller ahead of its announced November 1, 2024 release in select theaters, on digital and on demand.
What happens in the Cellar Door trailer?
John and Sera are trying to start over after a miscarriage when they meet Emmett, a wealthy homeowner played by Laurence Fishburne. He offers them his house, with one strict condition: they must never open the cellar door. John’s curiosity threatens to turn the extraordinary gift into a source of danger.
Collider’s September 24, 2024 trailer report describes the residence as expansive and impressive, with its many rooms and worn, locked cellar door helping make the house feel unsettling. The trailer’s central tension is not simply what the door hides, but what the prohibition does to a couple who have been handed a home on terms they may not be able to accept.
Who stars in the film?
- Jordana Brewster plays Sera.
- Scott Speedman plays John.
- Laurence Fishburne plays Emmett, the mysterious homeowner.
Vaughn Stein directed Cellar Door. The production company’s promotional description compares it to “THE GIFT meets FATAL ATTRACTION”; that is a marketing comparison, not a critical consensus.

Where is the couple moving?
The official Lionsgate trailer description places John and Sera’s relocation in the suburbs of Portland, Oregon. The production-company synopsis describes them leaving New York and heading “upstate.” Those descriptions differ, so they should not be combined into a single precise setting.
