Who was Joni Sledge?
Joni was one of four sisters—Debbie, Joni, Kathy and Kim—who formed Sister Sledge. The Philadelphia group became internationally known for its close harmonies and dance music. Joni sang lead on “Lost in Music.”
Why is Sister Sledge remembered?
Chic’s Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards wrote and produced Sister Sledge’s defining 1979 album, We Are Family. Its title song became the group’s best-known recording, while “Lost in Music” showcased Joni as a lead vocalist. The album remains a way to revisit the group’s sound and her contribution to it.
