Nancy Mace at a House Oversight hearing on January 14, 2025, Rep. Jasmine Crockett said a House Republican staffer called and placed a bet on Mace. Crockett later discussed the confrontation on The View. The account of the call came from Crockett’s office; the caller was not identified in the available reporting.
What did Nancy Mace say to Jasmine Crockett?
The exchange took place during a House Oversight and Accountability Committee hearing on January 14, 2025, in a discussion touching on civil rights and transgender people. After Crockett addressed Mace as “child,” Mace replied, “If you want to take it outside, we can do that.” The official hearing transcript records the words spoken.
Rep. Maxwell Frost then raised a point of order about inciting violence. Committee Chairman James Comer said the phrase could refer to going outside for a conversation: “And that could mean you could go outside and have a cup of coffee or perhaps a beer or—you know, I mean, we have lots of conversations outside.” The transcript establishes the exchange and Comer’s interpretation, but it cannot establish what either Mace or Crockett privately intended.
What did the staffer reportedly say to Crockett?
According to an account attributed to Crockett’s office, a House Republican staffer called after the hearing exchange and said, “That was a pretty heated exchange between y’all and Mace. My money’s on Mace.” The Independent reported the account on January 17, 2025, but did not name the caller. The report does not independently establish the caller’s identity or motive.

Crockett told the paper she took the call seriously, saying, “I do need to take it seriously, because violence has become a very real thing in this chamber, and ultimately, kind of in this country when it comes to politics.” Her concern is her stated response to the call; the reported remark alone does not establish that the caller intended a physical threat.
How did Mace describe her remark?
The Independent’s report said Mace later wrote on X that she did not mean a physical fight. That is Mace’s stated position as reported by the paper, distinct from the transcript’s record of what she said at the hearing. The available sources do not resolve the representatives’ differing interpretations of the exchange.

What did Crockett say on The View?
The verified View channel published a segment on February 19, 2025, titled “Rep. Jasmine Crockett Reacts To Rep. Nancy Mace Challenging Her To ‘Take It Outside.’” Its description quotes Crockett saying Mace should focus on a better economy.
A Yahoo Entertainment search result says Crockett discussed the staffer’s call on the show and notes she had first disclosed receiving it in January. The Yahoo page itself was not accessible, so the search result offers limited confirmation; no fuller interview wording should be inferred from it.
