The announcement followed two pregnancy losses the couple had previously experienced. James died on February 11, 2026, the Associated Press reported.
When James and Kimberly Van Der Beek welcomed Jeremiah
James shared the news on November 22, 2021. In a statement quoted by Good Morning America the following day, he wrote: “Humbled and overjoyed to announce the safe, happy arrival of Jeremiah Van Der Beek.” Entertainment Tonight also reported the announcement on November 22.
Jeremiah was the couple’s sixth child. Their five older children, named in contemporaneous reports, are Olivia, Joshua, Annabel, Emilia and Gwendolyn.
What James said about keeping the pregnancy private
James said the couple had kept the pregnancy quiet after experiencing two consecutive late-term pregnancy losses, both at 17 weeks or later. Those details were part of his account of the family’s experience, not a general medical assessment.

He also said a doctor in Texas attributed the previous losses to a weakened cervix, and that Kimberly underwent a surgical cerclage that was removed at full term. These are details James shared publicly; they do not establish what care or treatment is appropriate for anyone else.
James’s later comments about fatherhood
In a Good Morning America interview published May 8, 2023, James called fatherhood “the craziest thing I’ve ever done” and “the thing that’s made me happiest.” The remarks came after Jeremiah’s birth announcement and reflect his perspective in that later interview.

What is known about the family now
The Associated Press reported on February 11, 2026, that James died at age 48 and was survived by Kimberly and their six children, including Jeremiah. The 2021 birth announcement is therefore a retrospective family milestone, not a current announcement.
