Michael Keaton’s praise for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is a personal, promotional endorsement, not an independent critical review. In a June 2024 Yahoo Entertainment piece, he called the sequel “really f—ing good” and said the cast was very funny. That is what he said. It does not tell you whether the film works for a general audience.
What Keaton said
Yahoo Entertainment’s cast-and-plot explainer, published June 19, 2024, attributes this to Keaton: “I’ll tell you this, it’s really f—ing good. This cast is so good. Everyone is so friggin’ funny. It’s unbelievable how funny these guys are.”
The same article reports that Keaton was nervous about whether the team could pull off a sequel to the 1988 original, and that he described the production process as becoming more fun as it went on. Those remarks are his account of the experience, given while the film was being promoted.
How to read the remark
Three things affect how much weight the quote can carry:
#1 Best Overall
- It is an actor praising colleagues. Keaton’s emphasis is on the cast’s humor, not on the script’s structure, pacing, or how it compares with the original.
- It came before release. Promotional comments from people who worked on a film are generally positive by design. They are useful for knowing how the filmmakers felt, not for judging the result.
- It is a secondary report. The quote appears in an entertainment article, not in a full interview transcript. If you need the exact wording in a longer passage, check the original interview before quoting it.
Film and cast facts from the same article
- Title: Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, directed by Tim Burton.
- Release date: the article gives September 6, 2024 as the theatrical release date. Since that date has passed, treat it as a historical fact, not an upcoming opening.
- Plot setup: the Deetz family returns to Winter River after a death. Lydia’s daughter, Astrid, played by Jenna Ortega, opens a portal to the Afterlife.
- Returning cast: Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, and Catherine O’Hara.
- Newer cast members: Justin Theroux, Monica Bellucci, and Willem Dafoe.
- Predecessor: the 1988 film Beetlejuice.
Streaming and availability
The June 2024 article says the 1988 original was available on Prime Video when it was published. That was a fact about that moment, not a guarantee of current availability. Streaming catalogs change by region and over time, so check your local service before planning a rewatch. The article does not establish current streaming or physical-media availability for either film.

What the evidence supports: Keaton publicly called the film “really f—ing good” ahead of its release, and he praised the cast’s comedic work. What it does not support: any claim that the film was well received by critics or audiences, since the source predates release and is not a review. For an assessment of the film itself, look for reviews published after its September 2024 release.
