Disney’s official pages credit her as director of the completed sequel, which Disney describes as a 2025 release. The “now has a director” news belongs to the earlier announcement stage. This article covers the finished film, who made it, what it is about, and where it is listed.
Who directed Freaky Friday 2
Disney identifies Nisha Ganatra as the director. Disney’s official material also says the film is based on Mary Rodgers’s book, the novel the franchise originally came from. Ganatra is the only director credited on the official pages reviewed for this article, so there is no competing director or alternate version to account for.

From announcement to finished film
The director news came in stages. Each stage in Disney’s official communication is listed below, in order.
- Production announcement. Disney France published a behind-the-scenes announcement naming the director, cast, producers, premise, and the Mary Rodgers source-book credit. The official listings reviewed do not give a publication date for this announcement, so it should be read as the stage at which the director was first named publicly.
- Poster and trailer announcement. A later Disney France release repeated the director, cast, producers, and source-book credit, and set the French theatrical release for August 6, 2025.
- Released film. The Disney+ France title page lists the film as a 2025 release, with the director credited and a runtime of 1 hour 52 minutes.
Read together, the sequence shows that Ganatra was attached as the director before the film opened, and the finished film is the one now listed on Disney platforms.

Story: the same body swap, a different family
The sequel picks up years after Tess and Anna Coleman’s earlier identity crisis. Anna is now a mother, with a daughter and a prospective stepdaughter. The story returns to body swapping, but its focus is the difficulty of combining two families rather than a single mother-daughter conflict. Disney describes the project as a family comedy. The Disney+ France listing gives its genres as comedy and fantasy.

Where to watch and which formats are listed
Disney’s official film page lists several formats. Availability differs by territory, and the French listings are the only ones reviewed here that state a viewing location. The table shows what each official listing establishes.
| Format | What the official listing shows | Territory and price |
|---|---|---|
| Disney+ (streaming) | Title page on Disney+ France, listed as a 2025 release with runtime 1 hour 52 minutes | France. Subscription terms not stated in the official pages reviewed. |
| Digital purchase | Listed on Disney’s official film page | Territory not stated. Price not stated. |
| DVD | Listed on Disney’s official film page | Territory not stated. Price and stock not stated. |
| Blu-ray | Listed on Disney’s official film page | Territory not stated. Price and stock not stated. |
Because the French listings are territorial, do not assume that a French Disney+ listing means the film is available in your country. Check your local Disney+ catalogue or retailer before you subscribe or buy.

Which title to search for
Disney’s 2025 press material and the official Disney+ listing use Freaky Friday 2. Disney France’s listing uses Freaky Friday 2, encore dans la peau de ma mère. Retail search results may use the phrase Freakier Friday instead. When you search, match on the 2025 release year and the cast names above to confirm you have the sequel.

In a Disney France feature, Jamie Lee Curtis described the film’s theme. The original French is quoted first, followed by an English rendering prepared for this article:

It is about love, understanding, compassion and empathy… It is also about understanding, through the body swap, how hard life is for the person in front of you. This universal story lets us see the world through the other’s eyes and understand its brutality. Life does not give gifts. Yet we tend to take it for granted because, for many of us, it is sweet and easy.”
