Storms said in June that she could not say she felt comfortable returning to Los Angeles and work. On July 23, the show explained Maxie Jones’s absence by having the character, Damian Spinelli, and their children move to Australia. That is a storyline exit for now, not confirmation that Storms has quit.
What Kirsten Storms has said about returning
Storms first described her absence as an extended hiatus. In a July 2025 statement reported by TV Insider, she said she had spoken with executive producer Frank Valentini about why she wanted to move and her desire not to leave the show. At the time, she hoped she might return later that year.
Her position was less certain by June 2026. Storms said she could not say she would feel comfortable heading back to Los Angeles and returning to work, and described her daughter as her first priority. TV Insider reported the statement on June 8, 2026. It was an expression of uncertainty, not an announcement that she had permanently left the series.
How General Hospital explained Maxie’s absence
Storms briefly appeared as Maxie after the character woke from a coma in early 2026. Michael Fairman TV reported that her last appearance in that period aired March 13. On the July 23 episode, Cody explained that Maxie, Spinelli, and their children were moving to Australia. TV Insider covered the episode and Maxie’s storyline exit on July 23; Just Jared reported two days later that ABC had not publicly announced a permanent departure for Storms.

The move gives the soap a way to account for Maxie’s absence on screen. It does not, by itself, establish whether Storms will return or whether the character has been written out permanently.
Storms’s July update
On July 19, Storms said the move to Tennessee felt like the best choice for her and asked people to stop speculating about a personal disagreement involving her former spouse, citing their daughter. Michael Fairman TV reported her update and reproduced the statement on July 19, 2026. The public statement does not confirm a decision about her future with the show.
