Dragon Ball DAIMA is an official Dragon Ball anime with substantial story and design contributions from Akira Toriyama, but the official sources cited here do not explicitly declare it canon or define how it fits with both versions of Dragon Ball Super. So the careful answer is: DAIMA is an official, Toriyama-authored Dragon Ball story; a formal continuity ruling remains unconfirmed in these sources.
What is confirmed about DAIMA?
Toei Animation announced DAIMA on October 13, 2023, as a new Dragon Ball anime series with new episodes written by original-series author Akira Toriyama. Toei described him as closely involved in production and credited him with original work, story, and character design, as well as designs for vehicles, monsters, and background characters. Toei’s announcement called it “a new anime series with completely new episodes written by the author of the original series, Akira Toriyama.”

That is strong evidence of an official Dragon Ball story created with direct Toriyama involvement. It is not, by itself, an explicit statement that DAIMA belongs to every continuity fans may mean by “canon.”
Has DAIMA been officially confirmed as canon?
The official announcements and series materials cited here describe DAIMA as a new anime and identify its creators, premise, and production team. They do not use a formal canon label or explain how DAIMA relates to both the Dragon Ball Super television anime and the Dragon Ball Super manga. Accordingly, “confirmed canon” goes further than the evidence in those sources.
#1 Best Overall
The distinction matters because “canon” can refer to different things: an official franchise installment, a story tied to the original manga, or a specific anime or manga continuity. DAIMA clearly meets the first description. The sources do not settle the latter continuity questions, and Toriyama’s authorship alone does not establish that all Dragon Ball versions share one unified timeline.
What is DAIMA about, and where does it fit?
The official synopsis says Goku and his companions are living peacefully when a conspiracy turns them small. They discover that the cause may lie in the Demon Realm, where they encounter the mysterious young Majin Glorio. The premise establishes the Demon Realm as the setting for the adventure, but the synopsis does not place the series relative to specific Dragon Ball Super events.

- Textless Opening & Ending Songs LIMITED EDITION INCLUDES: 7 foil art cards Goku x Vegeta x Piccolo sticker Rigid box with exclusive art by the character designer
DAIMA began airing in Japan on October 11, 2024, according to the official Dragon Ball announcement. The official site later said the finale was scheduled for Friday, February 28, 2025, Japan time. Those dates establish the series’ release schedule, not its position in a shared chronology.
Who made the series?
DAIMA’s official credits identify a broader production team alongside Toriyama’s contributions. The official site credits Yoshitaka Yashima as director, Aya Komaki as series director, Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru for animation character design, and Yuko Kakihara for series composition and scenario. The official announcement and credits describe the production, but do not provide a continuity ruling.
