Yes. Channing Tatum has said he still wants to play Gambit again, and he has specifically expressed hope for a standalone film. That is his personal wish, not confirmation that Marvel has approved a solo project. Later reporting describes him as returning as Gambit in the ensemble film Avengers: Doomsday—a separate prospect from a Gambit movie of his own.
What does “a full Gambit role” mean?
There are two different possibilities behind that phrase: a return as Gambit in a larger team-up film, and a standalone movie centered on the character. The reporting treats them differently. Tatum has discussed his hope for a solo film, while later coverage describes his Gambit return in Avengers: Doomsday.

What has Tatum said about a solo movie?
At the August 2024 premiere of Blink Twice, Tatum said he hoped to get another chance to play Gambit, preferably in a solo movie. In November 2024, Variety Australia reported him saying: “I’ve been saying I want it for the last 10 years. It’s in Bob Iger and Kevin Feige’s hands. How did the Doomsday reports develop?
April 2025: Tatum urged caution
After the Avengers: Doomsday cast reveal, Tatum said: “Personally, all I was guaranteed was a chair. They said that I have a chair, and I can at least watch the movie from the chair. You know, and it was just my name, it wasn’t exactly Gambit.” That was a cautious response to the announcement at the time, not the last statement in the reporting reviewed here. ComicBook.com

The Independent later reported Tatum discussing his Gambit return and a change in how he would play the character. “I’m not gonna go full Cajun,” he said of the accent. Why didn’t the earlier Gambit movie happen?
A Fox-era standalone Gambit film spent years in development but did not proceed. Tatum later described its script as an R-rated romantic comedy: “And when I say R-rated, I mean we went for it.” He said Marvel and Disney would not have made that version in that form.
