Why were there two trailers?
Warner Bros. Discovery says Francesca Orsi, HBO’s Executive Vice President of Programming and Head of HBO Drama Series & Films, debuted the dueling trailers at Series Mania in Lille, France, on March 21, 2024. The announcement describes the videos as separate but complementary perspectives on the same story: each faction believes it has the rightful claim to the Iron Throne. Warner Bros. Discovery’s announcement frames the campaign as a way to see the approaching fracture through both sides.
HBO Max’s verified trailer listing made the invitation explicit: “All must choose. #TeamGreen or #TeamBlack” and “Watch both trailers before pledging your loyalty.” Those are promotional lines from the listing, not a declaration that viewers must make a permanent choice. The official dueling-trailers listing presents the two videos as a paired campaign.
What does each trailer’s perspective mean?
The intended point of comparison is the perspective each trailer foregrounds: the faction’s claims, characters, and presentation of the conflict. The official announcement calls the videos complementary halves of one story, while Ars Technica’s March 21, 2024 coverage likewise describes two official trailers, each presenting one side’s view of the coming struggle.

That framing is more useful than treating the trailers as separate plot summaries. Watch each one for how it asks you to see the same conflict from a different faction’s position. The available descriptions establish that contrast, but do not provide a scene-by-scene inventory; specific claims about which shots or characters appear in each cut should be checked against the videos themselves. Warner Bros. Discovery’s official trailer page identifies the paired videos.
Team Green or Team Black: which side should you choose?
The campaign leaves that choice to the viewer. Its premise is that the factions each regard their own claim to the Iron Throne as rightful, so choosing a team means engaging with the story through one side’s perspective—not accepting the promotion as proof that one side has an uncontested claim. The campaign line in Warner Bros. Discovery’s announcement says, “For global audiences, ‘All Must Choose’ their side of House Targaryen as the realm fractures in season two.” That is institutional promotional language, not a quote attributed to Orsi.
