Choose by what you want to send to YouTube. IRL Pro is an Android app for broadcasting a live phone feed. FFmpeg on a VPS is the closer fit when you want prerecorded video to repeat. They solve different source problems, so there is no evidence-based reliability or cost winner between them. If your goal is simply to keep prerecorded video streaming without maintaining a server or computer, StreamNeo is a cloud alternative.
First decide what “YouTube looping” means
Live phone camera feed
IRL Pro is an Android streaming app listed for Twitch, YouTube, and other services. Its documented role is sending a live broadcast from a phone, not repeatedly playing an uploaded video file. The Google Play listing identified in the available material says the app was updated September 18, 2024; app availability and Android compatibility can change, and its terms do not promise compatibility with every Android version or future updates.
Prerecorded video played repeatedly
FFmpeg on a VPS is the more relevant of these two approaches when the input is a video file that should repeat. A community discussion gives -stream_loop -1 as an example for looping an MP4 and sending it to YouTube. That example is community-authored, not official FFmpeg guidance, and does not establish a complete production setup: server sizing, process supervision, reconnection, monitoring, and cost remain dependent on your setup.
What the comparison can and cannot establish
The available documentation supports these different use cases; it does not provide a head-to-head test of uptime, picture quality, or total cost. Treat IRL Pro as the phone-broadcast path and FFmpeg as the file-looping path, rather than assuming they are interchangeable ways to repeat prerecorded media.

Comparison at a glance
| Need | Better-fitting approach | What to account for |
|---|---|---|
| Broadcast a live view from an Android phone | IRL Pro | Its documented workflow is live broadcasting; prerecorded looping is not established. |
| Repeat prerecorded media continuously | FFmpeg on a VPS | The cited loop example is community-level evidence; server configuration and operating cost are not established. |
| Keep a YouTube feed running without managing a VPS process | StreamNeo | It loops uploaded videos from the cloud, with any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot and a free first day. |
| Stream beyond YouTube’s stated automatic archive window | Either sending method, subject to YouTube setup | Plan a separate recording and manual upload for streams longer than 12 hours. |
Set up either encoder path for YouTube
Both IRL Pro and FFmpeg still need YouTube’s ingest details. In YouTube’s encoder workflow, obtain the stream URL and stream key, enter them in the encoder, then start sending from the encoder to go live. Treat the key like a password: do not publish or share it. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube before resuming.
Use compatible ingest settings
- Protocol: YouTube recommends RTMPS. The IRL Pro setup guide described here covers RTMP or SRT for its particular stream-key workflow; match the protocol selected in that setup to the endpoint and URL you configure. That guide is not proof that every IRL Pro configuration behaves identically.
- Video codec: YouTube lists H.264, H.265, or AV1. Choose a codec supported by the encoder and suitable for the stream.
- Audio codec: YouTube lists AAC or MP3.
- Rate control: YouTube recommends constant bitrate encoding.
- Keyframes: Set a two-second interval; YouTube says not to exceed four seconds.
These are YouTube ingest recommendations, not a promise that every encoder exposes identical controls or that a particular bitrate is right for every resolution and connection. The IRL Pro guide’s bitrate caps apply to the particular Enhanced IRL plans it describes, not to IRL Pro generally or to YouTube as a universal requirement.

Run the IRL Pro path for a live Android feed
- Prepare the YouTube broadcast. Create or open the live stream in YouTube’s encoder workflow and retrieve its stream URL and private stream key.
- Configure the IRL Pro connection. In the app’s streaming setup, enter the endpoint and key required for the selected YouTube ingest. Follow the protocol and URL requirements of the specific connection guide you are using; the Enhanced IRL guide describes RTMP and SRT and says the configured protocol and URL must match.
- Set available encoding options. Where the app exposes them, align codec, constant bitrate, and keyframe interval with YouTube’s guidance above. Do not assume a setting is available in every app version or configuration.
- Start the phone broadcast and verify YouTube receives it. Starting the encoder sends the feed; use YouTube’s live workflow to confirm the incoming feed before treating the stream as live.
- Plan for interruptions and recording. Keep the phone and its network connection available for the duration you intend to broadcast. The cited IRL Pro material does not establish automatic recovery behavior or comparative uptime.
Run the FFmpeg-on-a-VPS path for a prerecorded loop
- Prepare the media file. Choose the prerecorded video and confirm that its image and audio are appropriate for a continuous broadcast. The loop option discussed in the community example is for an MP4.
- Provision and access a VPS. Select a server and region that suit your needs, and confirm its outbound bandwidth and ability to keep a process running. The available evidence does not establish a recommended server size, provider, or price.
- Obtain YouTube’s ingest URL and stream key. Keep the key private. Configure the FFmpeg output to send to the YouTube endpoint; do not put the key in a public script, repository, or screenshot.
- Configure the loop and output. The community example uses FFmpeg’s
-stream_loop -1option to repeat an MP4 indefinitely. Configure the output for YouTube’s accepted codecs and recommended constant bitrate and keyframe settings. Exact command syntax and codec options depend on the input file and FFmpeg build; the example alone does not verify a universal command. - Start the process and verify the incoming feed. Start FFmpeg on the VPS and check YouTube’s live workflow for an incoming signal before relying on the stream.
- Provide process supervision and recovery. A looping command is not itself a service manager. Decide how the process will be monitored and restarted if FFmpeg exits, the VPS reboots, or YouTube disconnects. The cited community example does not specify a reconnection or supervision design.
- Decide how to retain a recording. Do not rely on YouTube’s archive for a long-running stream without checking the duration limit below. Make a recording and manual-upload plan where needed.
Account for YouTube’s 12-hour archive limit
YouTube Help states that streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. A separate YouTube live-production PDF says streams longer than 12 hours should be recorded by the team and uploaded manually. The Help page does not state a publication year in the material available here. For a continuous or 24/7 broadcast, plan your own recording and archive workflow rather than assuming one complete YouTube replay will cover the whole run.
Compare the operational burden and cost
- Input: IRL Pro fits a live Android camera feed; FFmpeg fits prerecorded media that needs to repeat.
- Control: FFmpeg gives you control over the media-processing and encoding process, but you must configure and operate that process on the VPS.
- Supervision: A VPS needs a plan for monitoring and restarting the process. The cited loop example does not supply one. The available IRL Pro evidence likewise does not establish a comparative recovery guarantee.
- Hosting cost: No current VPS provider, plan, or total operating cost is established here, so a claim that FFmpeg is cheaper would be unsupported. Include compute, outbound bandwidth, and the time needed to maintain it when making your own comparison.
- Archive: Either encoder path still needs a recording plan for streams longer than YouTube’s stated automatic archive window.
Or let it run in the cloud
For prerecorded videos, StreamNeo keeps a YouTube channel live by looping uploaded videos from the cloud. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; video streams as uploaded at any quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, with automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card required. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo is for uploaded video playback to YouTube, not a live camera feed. UPI and cards are supported in India; card checkout is available worldwide.

YouTube does not show an incoming signal
- Check that the encoder has the current YouTube stream URL and stream key, and that the key has not been mistyped or replaced.
- For IRL Pro, check that the protocol and URL match the configured connection. The described guide distinguishes RTMP and SRT setups.
- For FFmpeg, check that the process is still running and that the VPS can reach the configured endpoint. The cited loop example does not establish how to diagnose every connection failure.
The feed connects but YouTube does not accept the encoding
- Check that the selected video codec is H.264, H.265, or AV1 and audio is AAC or MP3.
- Use constant bitrate encoding and a two-second keyframe interval, keeping the interval at or below four seconds.
- Do not apply bitrate caps from a particular Enhanced IRL plan as though they were universal YouTube limits.
The prerecorded file stops repeating or the stream ends
- Confirm the file is being handled as an MP4 loop using the intended FFmpeg loop option.
- Check whether FFmpeg exited, the VPS restarted, or the ingest connection was dropped. Add monitoring and restart behavior appropriate to your own server; the community example does not include that operational layer.
The expected archive is missing or incomplete
Check stream duration. YouTube’s stated automatic archiving applies to streams under 12 hours; for longer streams, arrange a team recording and manual upload.
