Invincible is a superhero story about Mark Grayson, a teenager whose father is the powerful hero Omni-Man. You can experience the central story in Robert Kirkman and Cory Walker’s completed comic run or in Prime Video’s adult animated adaptation. The show adapts the comic, but the two are not interchangeable scene-for-scene; companion comics such as Tech Jacket and The Astounding Wolf-Man widen the setting rather than replace Mark’s story.
What is Invincible about?
At the center is Mark Grayson, a 17-year-old who begins to develop superpowers and learns what it means to follow in the footsteps of his father, Omni-Man. The premise starts as a coming-of-age superhero story and expands into a larger world of heroes, family, and conflict. Skybound describes the animated version as an adult animated superhero series centered on Mark.

Comic or animated series: which should you start with?
| Start with | What you get | Best fit |
|---|---|---|
| Prime Video animated series | An adult animated adaptation of Mark’s story. It is not a scene-for-scene substitute for the comic. | Readers who want to try the characters on screen before committing to a long comic run. |
| Core Invincible comic | A completed story of 146 issues, published over fifteen years, according to Image Comics and Skybound. | Readers who want the full original comic experience and are ready for an extensive run. |
| Companion comics | Stories centered on other characters in the wider universe, including Tech Jacket and The Astounding Wolf-Man. | Readers who already want to explore beyond the core Mark Grayson story. |
If you are unsure, begin with the animated series for a lower-commitment introduction, or choose the comic if you prefer reading the original long-form story. Move to companion titles when you want more of the universe; they are additional entry points, not replacements for the core run.
Where can you watch Invincible?
Skybound lists the animated series on Prime Video. The publisher reported streaming reach in more than 240 countries and territories in 2025, but that figure is not a guarantee that the series is currently available in every location. Check Prime Video in your country for present availability.

How many Invincible comics are there, and where should you start reading?
The core comic runs for 146 issues across fifteen years, according to Image Comics and Skybound. For the straightforward reading path, start with issue one and follow the main Invincible series through its conclusion. Its length makes collected editions a practical alternative to tracking down individual issues.
Skybound’s official store lists an Invincible Compendium 3 paperback. That listing establishes one collected-format option, but it does not by itself identify the right volume for a new reader; check the volume’s contents and current format before buying. Stock and available editions can change.

What else is in the Invincible Universe?
The wider universe includes companion stories such as Tech Jacket and The Astounding Wolf-Man, for which the publisher has announced compendium collections. These follow other characters and offer more world-building; they are not a required substitute for starting the central story with the Invincible comic.
For a production-focused look rather than another story, Skybound and Image announced The Art of Invincible Season Two, a behind-the-scenes companion. Check the edition and contents available to you before choosing it.

How does the screen adaptation relate to the comic?
The original comic was created by Robert Kirkman and Cory Walker, with Ryan Ottley among its contributing creators. The adult animated series is produced by Skybound Animation and Amazon MGM Studios. Both versions share the central characters and setting, but an adaptation is not the same as reading the comic; choose based on format and the experience you want rather than assuming scenes will match exactly.
Skybound said in 2026 that six seasons had been confirmed and described season four as the show’s most-watched season to date. The season-performance statement is the company’s own report, not an independent audience measurement; renewal and scheduling information can change.
