What the documentary follows
CineAsian Films describes the film as following six first-generation women of color emergency physicians in New York City and Chicago during the pandemic’s first year. The documentary looks beyond the hospital, showing the pressures of clinical work alongside family responsibilities and personal life.
Emergency medicine and caregiving
The film’s stories include pumping breast milk between shifts, navigating multigenerational family expectations, and raising children as a single mother while caring for patients amid devastating loss. CineAsian’s description also says the women watched 48 people die in a single night; that figure is a narrative detail in the film description, not an independently established statistic.

How the project began
Shah says the project grew out of a conversation with her cousin, an emergency physician who had recently returned from maternity leave. As Shah recounts it, her cousin called and asked, “If something happens to my baby, will you help me?” Shah’s director’s statement frames the film around the way a global crisis reaches into both public work and private life: “COVID-19 is a uniquely universal experience.”
Who made the film
Aneri Shah wrote and directed I’m Doing My Job. Shah’s LinkedIn post describes the doctors as a New York City group, while CineAsian Films’ film page places the stories in both New York City and Chicago. The latter is the broader geographic description on the film listing.

Runtime and release listings differ
Catalogues do not agree on the film’s year or length. CineAsian Films lists it as a 2023 U.S. documentary running 50 minutes; Film Platform lists 2022 and 47 minutes; Gathr / ROCO Voices lists 2023 and 50 minutes; Apple TV’s displayed regional listing gives 2026 and 45 minutes. How to find or arrange a screening
For individual viewing
Apple TV has a catalogue listing, but the displayed year and duration differ from other sources, and availability can vary by region. Check the listing for your location rather than assuming the film is currently available everywhere. Film Platform’s notice that the film was not yet available for streaming may be out of date in light of the later catalogue listing.
For a campus, hospital, or community group
The Gathr / ROCO Voices listing says ROCO Films handles bookings, including virtual screenings. Shah’s LinkedIn post also says she is open to providing a license and attending or speaking at a company screening. Contact the relevant party directly to confirm current availability, terms, and any costs; the listings do not establish universal access or current pricing.
