In an October 2020 essay for Stellar, actor Hugh Sheridan said they had been in relationships with men and women. Sheridan also said labels did not feel right to them. Their later public comments used different language, so the statements are best understood in their own contexts rather than as one permanent label.
What did Hugh Sheridan say in 2020?
In an essay for Stellar, published in October 2020, Sheridan said they had been in relationships with men and women. In the essay, as reproduced by PerthNow on 18 October 2020, they wrote: “As I get to know someone romantically, I’m not interested in their age, gender, sexuality, or religion. I’m interested in connecting on a human level. Sexuality has always been very secondary to me.”
Sheridan said they were uncomfortable with labels and wanted to speak to people who were still working out how to describe themselves. WHO reported on 20 October 2020 that Sheridan framed the disclosure as a way to help people who felt labels did not fit. The essay described Sheridan’s own experience; it did not establish a label for them or for others.
How did Sheridan describe themself in 2021?
In a June 2021 Instagram post, Sheridan used non-binary and bi language while also rejecting labels. ABC News reported on 27 June 2021 that the post said: “I AM still a human (non binary/bi/me/Hughman) but I’m in a monogamous relationship with another human, who I love,” and, “I chose zero labels for no other reason except the exclusion, limitations, separation, I believe are all one, deeeeep down.”

The post’s wording is not a simple declaration of a fixed identity: Sheridan used those terms and, in the same post, explained their reluctance to accept a label.
What did Sheridan reportedly say in 2024?
Sheridan appeared on The Kyle and Jackie O Show on 11 September 2024, according to the show’s episode listing. The listing confirms the interview date and existence, but it does not provide a transcript. A September 2024 account by Instinct Magazine reported that Sheridan rejected the non-binary label and described themself as straight “for now.” That characterization comes from secondary reporting of the interview, not from a transcript on the program page.

How to read the statements together
The comments came years apart and in different settings: a 2020 essay about relationships and labels, a 2021 social-media post that used non-binary and bi language while rejecting labels, and a 2024 radio appearance whose wording is reported secondhand. They should be attributed to Sheridan at the time they were made, not collapsed into a single permanent identity description.
