Directed by Doug Liman, this modern reworking of the 1989 Patrick Swayze action film follows Dalton, a former UFC fighter hired to protect a bar in the Florida Keys. The movie premiered at South by Southwest and was released in the United States on Prime Video on March 21, 2024. You can watch Road House on Prime Video, subject to current availability in your location.

Jake Gyllenhaal as Dalton
Jake Gyllenhaal plays Dalton, a former UFC fighter who is recruited to work security at a Florida Keys bar. If his focused, physically intense presence seems familiar, the quickest reference points are his performances as the obsessive freelance cameraman Lou Bloom in Nightcrawler, troubled detective Loki in Prisoners, and boxer Billy Hope in Southpaw.

Gyllenhaal’s filmography also includes Donnie Darko, Brokeback Mountain, Zodiac, Nocturnal Animals, Stronger, Ambulance, and The Covenant. Superhero-movie viewers may know him as Quentin Beck, also called Mysterio, in Spider-Man: Far From Home.

His performance in Brokeback Mountain earned an Academy Award nomination for Supporting Actor and a BAFTA win. Dalton draws on a different side of Gyllenhaal’s screen persona: the character is quiet and guarded, but the role requires a physically committed action performance once the bar’s problems escalate.
Daniela Melchior as Ellie
Daniela Melchior plays Ellie, an emergency-room doctor who becomes Dalton’s romantic connection. English-language audiences most commonly recognize Melchior as Cleo Cazo, or Ratcatcher 2, in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad (2021).
She later appeared as Isabel in Fast X, Ura in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, and in films including Marlowe and Assassin Club. Before becoming internationally prominent through English-language productions, Melchior had an established career in Portuguese television, including Mulheres, Massa Fresca, Ouro Verde, A Herdeira, and Valor da Vida.
Melchior is Portuguese, not American. In Road House, she provides a grounded counterpoint to Dalton’s violent new job while also connecting him to the local community.
Conor McGregor as Knox
Conor McGregor plays Knox, a volatile enforcer sent to intensify the conflict around the bar. Most viewers know McGregor from mixed martial arts rather than from a previous acting role. UFC identifies him as a former featherweight champion and former lightweight champion; he was also the organization’s first simultaneous two-division champion.
Road House represents McGregor’s feature-film acting debut. His casting deliberately uses the public persona that made him famous: the swagger, verbal confidence, celebrity profile, and genuine combat background associated with his UFC career. It would be inaccurate to describe him as an established actor before this film.
Knox is not simply a cameo. He is a major physical antagonist in the movie, and McGregor’s real-world fighting identity is an obvious part of how the production presents the character.

Billy Magnussen as Ben Brandt
Billy Magnussen plays Ben Brandt, the businessman connected to the troubled roadhouse. Magnussen is especially recognizable as Ryan in Game Night, Rapunzel’s Prince in Into the Woods, and Prince Anders in Disney’s Aladdin.

His other credits include Steven Spielberg’s Bridge of Spies, the James Bond film No Time to Die, The Many Saints of Newark, and the television series Made for Love. Magnussen often plays characters who appear polished or charming but carry comic, awkward, or sinister undertones. That combination makes him easier to place once one of those earlier titles comes to mind.
Jessica Williams as Frankie
Jessica Williams plays Frankie, the owner of the Florida Keys bar where Dalton works. Many viewers first know Williams from her time as a correspondent on The Daily Show or from 2 Dope Queens, the comedy podcast and HBO specials she co-hosted with Phoebe Robinson.
Genre audiences may recognize her as Lally Hicks from the Fantastic Beasts films. She also plays Gaby in the Apple TV+ series Shrinking. Frankie gives Williams a more direct dramatic role than her earlier comedy and commentary work, while still leaving room for her dry, confident comic timing.

Joaquim de Almeida appears as the sheriff. He is a veteran Portuguese-American actor with an extensive international career. Familiar film credits include Clear and Present Danger, Desperado, Behind Enemy Lines, and Fast Five.
Television viewers may know him from the crime drama Queen of the South. His role in Road House is part of the film’s local authority structure, alongside the bar staff and residents caught up in the conflict.
Post Malone as Carter
Musician Austin Post, professionally known as Post Malone, appears as Carter. The full cast credits use both his stage name and legal name.
This is primarily a music-star recognition point rather than a role linked to a long acting career. Audiences are most likely to identify him from his recording work, including “White Iverson,” “Congratulations,” “Rockstar,” and “Circles.” His appearance is one of the film’s notable celebrity cameos.
Lukas Gage as Billy
Lukas Gage plays Billy in a supporting role. He is familiar to many streaming-television viewers from The White Lotus, You, Euphoria, and Fargo.

His film credits include Scream 6 and Companion. Because of his visibility across recent streaming series, Gage may be one of the younger performers audiences recognize even though Billy is not one of the film’s central characters.
Arturo Castro as Moe
Arturo Castro plays Moe. His strongest recognition cues are Comedy Central’s Broad City, Netflix’s Narcos, and FX’s Alternatino with Arturo Castro.
Castro is frequently cast in comic or sharply distinctive supporting parts. In Road House, that recognizable supporting-player energy makes him easier to identify than the size of Moe’s role might suggest.
J.D. Pardo as Dell
J.D. Pardo plays Dell. His most prominent recent recognition point is Ezekiel “EZ” Reyes, the central character he played in the television series Mayans M.C.
Other credits include The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2, American Dreams, and Revolution. Viewers who know Pardo from crime or action television may recognize him even before placing the character’s name.
Beau Knapp as Vince
Beau Knapp appears as Vince. He has worked extensively in crime, action, and thriller projects, including Southpaw, The Nice Guys, Seven Seconds, The Good Lord Bird, and The Lost Symbol.
Knapp is the kind of character actor viewers may recognize from several projects without immediately remembering his name. His role as Vince adds another familiar face to the film’s group of bar and local antagonists.

Her visibility has included The Young and the Restless and later television work such as The Irrational. Charlie is part of the film’s local ensemble rather than one of its headline roles.
Kevin Carroll as Stephen
Kevin Carroll plays Stephen. He is a veteran performer whose recognizable credits include The Chi, Snowfall, The Good Lord Bird, and The Crossover.
Carroll’s television work spans drama and family-oriented programming, making him another cast member viewers may recognize from a recent series rather than from a single defining blockbuster role.
Bob Menery as Jack
Bob Menery appears as Jack. Menery is primarily known as a sports broadcaster, internet personality, and creator associated with exaggerated sports commentary.
The full cast credits him as Jack under his legal name, Robert Menery. His background is therefore closer to sports media and online entertainment than to a substantial prior film-acting career.

The broader credited cast includes Dominique Columbus as Reef, B.K. Cannon as Laura, Darren Barnet, Travis Van Winkle, and Gbemisola Ikumelo, along with additional performers.
These names belong to the film’s complete credited ensemble, but they should not all be treated as co-leads. The principal story is carried by Dalton, the bar’s staff and owners, the local power structure, and the people hired to threaten the establishment.
How the 2024 cast differs from the 1989 film
The 2024 film is a modern reworking of the 1989 Road House, which starred Patrick Swayze. The newer movie retains the basic idea of a highly capable outsider hired to bring order to a dangerous bar, but it changes the setting and updates Dalton’s background: Gyllenhaal’s Dalton is a former UFC fighter working in the Florida Keys.

The two films have different casts and should not be confused when searching for home-video editions. The available research confirms Prime Video and digital availability for the 2024 film but does not confirm an official U.S. DVD, Blu-ray, or 4K release of the remake. A physical disc labeled the original 1989 Road House on DVD refers to the Patrick Swayze movie, not the 2024 production.
Collectors interested in the earlier film may also encounter Road House: The Lost Album, a licensed vinyl soundtrack release associated with the 1989 movie. It is not the soundtrack to the 2024 film.
Where to start if you recognize only one actor
- You recognize the lead from an intense thriller: check Gyllenhaal’s Nightcrawler, Prisoners, or Southpaw.

- You recognize the imposing fighter: McGregor is the former UFC champion playing Knox, and this is his feature-film acting debut.
- You recognize the polished businessman: Magnussen appeared in Game Night, Into the Woods, and Aladdin.
- You recognize Frankie from comedy or television: Williams was a Daily Show correspondent, co-host of 2 Dope Queens, and a performer in Fantastic Beasts and Shrinking.
- You recognize a familiar crime-drama face: look for de Almeida, Pardo, Knapp, Castro, or Carroll in the supporting cast.
- You recognize a musician rather than an actor: Post Malone appears as Carter.
