The HISTORY Channel is not included in YouTube TV’s U.S. channel lineup and cannot currently be added through a YouTube TV add-on. This status was verified on August 18, 2026, although channel lineups can change. If you want to watch HISTORY programs such as The Curse of Oak Island or Ancient Aliens, you can keep YouTube TV and subscribe to a separate live-TV service, switch providers, or watch the unlocked content available through HISTORY’s website and apps.
How to verify your YouTube TV lineup
YouTube TV’s lineup can vary by location, so you can check your own account and ZIP code:
- Open YouTube TV’s official availability page and enter your home ZIP code.
- In a browser, go to tv.youtube.com, select your profile photo, open Settings, and choose Membership.
- Review the available networks and add-ons. HISTORY does not appear to be offered.
YouTube TV product-expert responses say HISTORY has never been offered by the service. That historical point comes from support-community responses rather than a formal Google announcement, so it is best treated as an attributed explanation—not proof that the lineup could never change.
Can you add HISTORY to YouTube TV?
No. YouTube TV lets subscribers purchase only the networks displayed with an ADD button in Membership. On a supported TV device, open YouTube TV, select the Store icon near your profile image, choose an available network, and select Add network. The web instructions are documented by YouTube TV.

Changing to a more expensive YouTube TV plan will not unlock every cable channel, and the Entertainment Plus package does not add HISTORY. YouTube Primetime Channels are a separate subscription marketplace; finding another service there would not make HISTORY part of your YouTube TV membership.
Why searching for HISTORY can be misleading
YouTube TV search can return programs, networks, related videos, and content from other YouTube surfaces. A search for “HISTORY” may therefore show:
- clips, trailers, or documentaries on regular YouTube;
- programs with similar titles;
- individual episodes available for purchase or rental; or
- content that is not a live HISTORY Channel feed.
As YouTube’s help documentation explains, unavailable videos may open in the regular YouTube app. A HISTORY clip on YouTube is not the same thing as access to the live network.

These listings come from HISTORY’s supported-provider page and its streaming-provider guidance. Provider packages, prices, regional availability, DVR rules, and app rights can change. One HISTORY page also mentions Vidgo, but its current availability should be confirmed before subscribing.
Frndly TV: the budget-oriented choice
Frndly TV’s official HISTORY page advertises the live channel and on-demand programming, while its main site advertises more than 50 channels and plans starting at $6.99 per month. The price is a “starting at” figure observed on August 18, 2026; promotions, taxes, billing frequency, and plan levels may affect the amount charged.
Frndly TV is a sensible choice if you mainly want HISTORY and a modest selection of lifestyle, family, and documentary-oriented channels. It is less suitable if you need extensive sports, local broadcast stations, or a large cable lineup. Importantly, HISTORY currently says Frndly TV and Sling can provide live programming but cannot be used to authenticate the HISTORY website or apps.

Keeping YouTube TV and another service together
You do not have to cancel YouTube TV. To use a second service:
- Keep your existing YouTube TV membership.
- Subscribe directly to Frndly TV, Philo, Sling, Hulu + Live TV, or DIRECTV Stream.
- Install the second provider’s app on your Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV, Google TV device, smart TV, phone, tablet, or browser.
- Sign in with the second provider’s account and open its live guide or on-demand catalog.
This preserves YouTube TV’s existing local channels, sports, cloud DVR, and interface while giving you another app for HISTORY. The trade-off is two bills, two apps, potentially duplicated channels, and no merged YouTube TV Library for HISTORY recordings.

Switching providers makes more sense when HISTORY is essential and you do not want to manage two subscriptions. Compare each replacement by checking:

- whether it carries the live linear HISTORY feed;
- whether its credentials unlock History.com and the HISTORY app;
- local channels and sports in your ZIP code;
- DVR storage, retention, and commercial-skipping rules;
- simultaneous streams and supported devices;
- the full monthly cost, including taxes, promotions, and add-ons; and
- which YouTube TV recordings, channels, or features you would lose.
Philo is the stronger match for a broader entertainment-focused package. Sling offers more package flexibility, though its HISTORY app sign-in limitation matters. Hulu + Live TV and DIRECTV Stream are more natural candidates for a wider live-TV replacement and are listed by HISTORY as supported providers for app authentication. Confirm every lineup and price directly before switching.
Can you watch HISTORY for free?
Only partially. HISTORY says some videos and episodes are available without signing in on History.com and in the HISTORY apps. Full access requires authentication through a supported TV provider that includes HISTORY in its package. HISTORY does not currently offer a standalone subscription that unlocks its entire catalog, according to its support guidance.

To test access, install the HISTORY app or visit History.com, select a locked episode, choose the TV-provider sign-in option, and search the provider list. Some free clips may play even when full episodes and premieres remain locked.
Also distinguish live access from on-demand access. A provider may carry the live channel while offering a different selection of seasons or episodes on demand. Network rights, DVR rules, and HISTORY app authentication are separate issues.
Requesting HISTORY from YouTube TV
If you want Google to consider adding the network, use YouTube TV’s network-request form. This is feedback, not an immediate viewing option, and it does not guarantee that HISTORY will be added or provide a timeline.
