That information is a useful guide to the program’s recent pattern—not a confirmed schedule for December 31, 2026. ABC has not yet established the title-year label, airtime, duration, host lineup, performer list, or next-day Hulu availability for the edition welcoming 2027.
What changed in the latest confirmed edition?
The 2025–26 broadcast expanded beyond the traditional New York countdown. ABC announced live countdown locations in:
- New York City, for the familiar Times Square celebration;
- Chicago, which supplied the program’s first Central Time countdown in its more-than-50-year history;
- Las Vegas; and
- Puerto Rico, for a Spanish-language Atlantic Time countdown.
Ryan Seacrest and Rita Ora were announced from New York, Chance the Rapper was associated with the Chicago coverage, and Rob Gronkowski and Julianne Hough were announced for Las Vegas. ABC also announced Diana Ross as the 2025–26 headliner, alongside a broader performer lineup. None of those names should be presented as part of the 2026–27 show unless ABC announces them again.
Ways to receive ABC
- Broadcast television: Use your local ABC affiliate if you have a pay-TV package or receive the station over the air.
- Live-TV streaming: A current live-TV streaming bundle may carry your local ABC affiliate, but channel availability, pricing, and terms vary by location and can change before December 2026.
- On-demand viewing: Hulu carried the latest edition the next day, but ABC has not confirmed that the same arrangement will apply to the 2026–27 special.
How to watch CBS’s New Year’s Eve Live: Nashville’s Big Bash
Country-music viewers should watch for CBS’s New Year’s Eve Live: Nashville’s Big Bash. CBS has not yet announced the 2026–27 broadcast blocks, hosts, performers, Nashville location details, or streaming access rules. The most recent confirmed edition aired live from downtown Nashville’s Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park.

- 8–10 p.m. Eastern and Pacific; and
- 10:30 p.m.–1:30 a.m. Eastern and Pacific.
Paramount+ Premium subscribers could stream that edition live through their local CBS affiliate feed. Paramount+ Essential subscribers did not receive the live feed; they received on-demand access the following day. That live-versus-on-demand distinction was specific to the confirmed 2025–26 arrangement. Check the subscription tier and local-feed terms again when CBS publishes its 2026–27 information.
The latest confirmed lineup included Jason Aldean, Lainey Wilson, Bailey Zimmerman, CeCe Winans, and the Fisk Jubilee Singers. Those performers are historical reference points only, not a 2026–27 announcement.
What about CNN’s New Year’s Eve coverage?
CNN’s New Year’s Eve Live is another option for viewers who want a combination of live reporting, celebrity guests, entertainment, and countdown coverage. The previous guide identified Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen as the hosts, but the 2026–27 renewal, hosts, schedule, lineup, and viewing terms were not confirmed in the available official material.

Free option: the official Times Square webcast
If you only want the Times Square ball drop and do not need a full network music special, the Times Square Alliance’s official webcast is the clearest free option. Its webcast has offered commercial-free coverage distributed through the Times Square website and social platforms including YouTube, Facebook Live, and X.
This is a separate Times Square event stream. It is not the complete ABC Rockin’ Eve broadcast and does not provide the CBS Nashville special.
The Times Square Alliance’s information also points viewers toward the official webcast for free online coverage, open captions, and American Sign Language interpretation. Because the currently referenced accessibility information concerns the 2025 celebration, confirm the exact 2026–27 start time, captions, ASL availability, and platform destinations before the event.

Can you watch ABC or CBS without cable?
Often, yes—but the answer depends on your location. ABC and CBS are broadcast networks, so an appropriate indoor HDTV antenna may receive a local affiliate over the air where one is available. Reception depends on the station serving your area, distance from the transmitter, building materials, terrain, interference, and antenna placement. An antenna is not a guarantee that every household will receive both networks.
Check which local stations serve your address before buying equipment, and place the antenna as directed—often near a window or higher on a wall for indoor models. If your local ABC or CBS signal is weak or unavailable, a current live-TV streaming bundle may be the more reliable solution, subject to local-channel availability and the provider’s current terms.
Which viewing method should you choose?
| Your priority | Best starting point | Important caveat |
|---|---|---|
| Pop performances and multiple countdown locations | ABC’s Rockin’ Eve | Wait for ABC’s 2026–27 schedule, lineup, and Hulu announcement. |
| Country music | CBS’s Nashville’s Big Bash | Confirm the 2026–27 broadcast blocks and whether Paramount+ Premium again receives the live feed. |
| The Times Square ball drop for free | Official Times Square webcast | Verify the current webcast page, start time, platforms, captions, and ASL support. |
| Local broadcast without a pay-TV subscription | Indoor HDTV antenna | Reception varies by address; check local ABC and CBS signal availability first. |
| Several live channels in one app | A current live-TV streaming service | Local ABC/CBS carriage, price, device support, and regional terms must be checked at the time of signup. |
What to check before December 31, 2026
- Confirm the year. The relevant event is New Year’s Eve on December 31, 2026, welcoming 2027—not the specials that aired on December 31, 2025.
- Check the official network announcements. Look for ABC’s final Rockin’ Eve hosts, performers, airtime, and Hulu plans, as well as CBS’s final Nashville’s Big Bash schedule and lineup.
- Verify local-channel access. If you plan to use an antenna or live-TV streaming bundle, confirm that your local ABC or CBS affiliate is available at your address.
- Check streaming tiers carefully. A service may offer a program on demand without offering the live broadcast. The 2025–26 CBS arrangement illustrated that distinction: Paramount+ Premium streamed live, while Essential offered next-day on-demand access.
- Test your setup early. Sign in to the relevant app, check the device, update software, and test the antenna or internet connection before countdown night.
- Recheck accessibility information. Confirm whether the official Times Square webcast provides open captions and ASL interpretation for the 2026–27 celebration.
The safest plan is to choose a primary option and a backup. For example, a viewer might use an antenna or local-channel streaming service for ABC or CBS and keep the official Times Square webcast available in a browser as a free fallback. Until the networks publish their 2026–27 announcements, any host, performer, airtime, or streaming detail copied from the 2025–26 specials should be treated as historical—not confirmed for this New Year’s Eve.
