A Mac can send video to Apple TV or a compatible television through AirPlay. Select the AirPlay control in the video player when available, or use the Mac’s display/AirPlay controls to choose the receiving device. Apple’s Mac guidance also supports mirroring the Mac display to Apple TV.

You need:
- An Apple TV 4K or another compatible Apple TV, generally fourth generation or later.
- A television or display with an HDMI input.
- An HDMI cable, sold separately from Apple TV hardware in Apple’s setup documentation.
- Internet access.
- An Apple Account for relevant Apple services and the ESPN app.
- An ESPN login and, if required, an eligible TV-provider or streaming-service authentication.
If you are replacing a cable for an Apple TV setup, choose an HDMI cable for Apple TV that is appropriate for your television and the video features you use. If you already have a suitable HDMI cable, there is no reason to buy another one simply for the Super Bowl.
Apple TV setup steps
- Connect Apple TV to the television with HDMI and connect it to power.
- Switch the television to the correct HDMI input.
- Connect Apple TV to the internet and update tvOS.
