1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteShort answer: You cannot currently subscribe to the official US STARZ streaming service as a UK resident. The former UK service, first called STARZPLAY and later LIONSGATE+, closed in May 2024. To watch a particular STARZ programme legally, search for that title and season on UK-licensed streaming services, TV packages and digital stores.
Is STARZ available in the UK?
Not as an official standalone STARZ service for UK residents, as of 18 August 2026. The surviving STARZ service is the US platform. Its current terms require subscribers to reside in the United States, the District of Columbia or US territories, and state that the service is unavailable outside the US. The same terms address attempts to circumvent geographic restrictions and allow account suspension or termination: STARZ terms.
A STARZ website or app appearing in a UK search result does not turn the US service into a UK subscription. STARZ Entertainment, the US-focused business, is also distinct from Lionsgate Studios, the content company.
What happened to STARZPLAY and LIONSGATE+?
- 2018: STARZPLAY launched in the UK.
- Later: The international service was rebranded LIONSGATE+.
- May 2024: The UK service shut down. Starz’s corporate filing records completion of the UK shutdown in that month: Starz filing.
Older guides may still mention LIONSGATE+ on Amazon Prime Video, Sky, Roku or Apple TV. Those pages describe the former service or historical distribution and are not evidence of a current UK STARZ offering.

Can you subscribe through Amazon Prime Video UK?
Amazon supports add-on subscriptions and uses Starz as an example in general help documentation, but that page does not confirm that a STARZ channel is currently sold in the UK. Add-on charges are separate from Prime membership fees: Amazon’s help page.
Check the live UK storefront before paying:
- Open Amazon Prime Video UK.
- Search for the exact film or series and season.
- Check whether the title is included, available to rent or buy, or offered through a currently listed channel.
- Confirm the territory and total price on the title or checkout page.
Historical prices such as £2.99 or £4.99 are not current UK STARZ prices. The £4.99 launch price applied to STARZPLAY’s 2018 Amazon Channels debut, not to a service operating today: 2018 announcement.
Do you need Amazon Prime to watch a STARZ show?
No. Prime Video distinguishes between titles included with a membership, add-on subscriptions, rentals and purchases. Prime is useful only if the specific UK title page currently offers the programme. A trailer, search result or old channel reference is not proof that the show is included.

Can you use the US STARZ app from Britain?
A US account is not an official UK-access product. STARZ’s terms impose a US residence requirement and say the platform is unavailable outside the US. A VPN may change the apparent network location, but it does not change those contractual or territorial restrictions. It can also cause playback failures or account action, so it is not a recommended solution. Do not create an account with inaccurate residence or billing information.
If you already pay for US STARZ, contact STARZ support about your account. Travel access is not guaranteed, and downloaded programmes do not create a new right to watch in another territory.
How to find a STARZ programme legally in the UK
STARZ branding identifies the origin or association of a programme; it does not identify its current UK distributor. Use this title-first process:

- Write down the exact title, season and episode.
- Search UK versions of major licensed streaming services and digital retailers.
- Check every season separately; rights can differ by season or episode.
- Confirm subtitles, audio, age rating and whether episodes are complete.
- Compare subscription, rental and one-off purchase options.
- Recheck immediately before subscribing because rights rotate.
If no legal stream appears, check UK broadcast listings, TV-channel packages and DVD or Blu-ray releases. A show that once appeared on LIONSGATE+ may now be licensed elsewhere—or unavailable temporarily.
Common search-result traps
- “STARZ.com”: Usually the US service, not a UK entitlement.
- An app-store listing: Device availability does not prove UK subscription or playback rights.
- “Starz on Amazon”: General Amazon documentation does not establish a live UK channel.
- Sky, Roku or Apple TV guides: Check the publication date; many predate the May 2024 closure.
- Disney Star: Disney’s Star branding is unrelated to STARZ.
Buying individual episodes or films
STARZ says its own service does not sell programmes on a pay-per-view basis: STARZ support explanation. UK viewers must therefore look to a licensed UK retailer for any individual episode or season purchase. Availability and ownership terms belong to that retailer’s licence.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is STARZ on Sky in the UK?

Is STARZ on Amazon Prime Video UK?
Amazon’s general help page mentions Starz as an add-on example, but it does not confirm a current UK STARZ channel. Check the live UK storefront and checkout for the exact title.
Is LIONSGATE+ still available in Britain?
No. The former UK service closed in May 2024.
Can I watch Outlander or Power without STARZ?
Possibly, depending on the UK rights holder at the time. Search the exact series and season on UK-licensed services, broadcasters and digital stores.
Can I download STARZ shows before travelling to the UK?
Offline downloads do not create territorial rights. Access remains subject to the service’s terms and location restrictions.
