The only reliably free way to watch your local NBC station live is usually an over-the-air antenna—and only if your home can receive the local broadcast signal. NBC’s website and app are free to access, but NBC requires TV-provider authorization for its live stream. Selected episodes may become free after a delay, while Peacock Premium Plus and live-TV streaming services provide paid online access where local NBC rights are available.
That distinction matters: free NBC access, free NBC episodes, and a free live NBC livestream are three different things.

Free ways to watch NBC without cable
1. Use an over-the-air antenna for local NBC
An antenna is the clearest answer if you want live local NBC without a monthly subscription. Broadcast television is transmitted over the air, so households within range of a local NBC affiliate can receive it with a compatible digital TV tuner and antenna. Older analog televisions need a digital converter box.
Reception is not guaranteed. Your results depend on distance from the broadcast tower, terrain, hills, nearby buildings, construction materials, the station’s signal, and where you place the antenna. An advertised “100-mile” or similar antenna rating is not a promise that your home will receive NBC from that distance.

If your home is reasonably close to the tower and has a window or exterior-facing wall, start with an indoor HDTV antenna. A roof-mounted or attic antenna may be more appropriate when indoor reception is weak, the broadcast towers are farther away, or walls and nearby structures interfere with the signal.
Antenna setup checklist
- Check local coverage first. Look up the broadcast stations serving your address or ZIP code before buying equipment. Confirm that an NBC affiliate is receivable in your area.
- Start with the simplest installation. Connect the antenna’s coaxial cable to the television’s antenna/RF input. If the antenna is amplified, connect its power adapter as directed.
- Run a channel scan. On many televisions this is under Settings or Channels, followed by Auto Program, Auto Tuning, or Channel Scan. Select Antenna or Air, not Cable.
- Try different placement. Move an indoor antenna higher, closer to a window, and away from large metal objects and electronics. Rescan after each meaningful change.
- Upgrade only if needed. If the signal remains unreliable, try an attic or outdoor antenna, a better cable, or a professional installation rather than assuming a larger advertised mileage number will solve the problem.
- Rescan when necessary. A station that changes transmission frequency may require viewers to scan for channels again, even if the station’s familiar channel number stays the same.
Best for: local NBC news, weather, primetime, and other programming carried by your local affiliate. Not ideal for: viewers who live outside the station’s reception area or need a dependable internet stream while traveling.

2. Watch selected NBC episodes for free after a delay
NBC makes some newly aired content available online without a pay-TV provider, generally after a delay of about eight days. The exact timing varies by show, platform, and rights window. Some episodes may require an NBCUniversal Profile or provider authentication, and episodes can expire.
This works well if you want to catch up on a current series and do not need to watch it live. It does not replace a live local-news feed, severe-weather coverage, election coverage, live sports, or a program you want to watch at its scheduled time.
Peacock Premium Plus: the simplest paid online option
Peacock’s local-NBC offering is the most direct internet-based alternative to an antenna for viewers whose location is supported. Peacock says Premium Plus subscribers can stream their local NBC channel live 24/7, including local news, weather, NBC primetime, and other local programming.
The local feed is selected based on the streaming device’s location. In some situations, Peacock may provide a national NBC feed instead of the local station because of rights restrictions. That means Premium Plus should not be treated as an unconditional guarantee of a specific affiliate everywhere.
At the time of research, Peacock’s pages listed Premium Plus at $16.99 per month or $169.99 per year. Prices, promotional offers, taxes, and plan terms can change, so verify the amount and local-channel eligibility at checkout. Lower Peacock tiers may provide on-demand programming, but they should not be treated as a guaranteed way to watch a 24/7 local NBC station; the local-channel entitlement is specifically associated with Premium Plus.
Best for: someone who wants local NBC online and also wants Peacock’s on-demand movies, shows, news, and sports in the same app. Caveats: it is not free, local rights vary, and some sports, events, channels, and titles may still contain advertising even with an ad-free-oriented plan.
Live-TV streaming services that may carry NBC
Live-TV streaming services work more like cable: you pay a monthly fee for a channel lineup, then watch through an app or browser. Their NBC availability is determined by your local market, so check your ZIP code before starting a subscription or trial.

YouTube TV advertises more than 100 live channels, including NBC, and says its local-network coverage reaches more than 98% of U.S. TV households. That national figure is not a guarantee that your particular NBC affiliate is included. Enter your ZIP code on YouTube TV’s lineup page before subscribing.
At the time of research, the main plan was listed at $82.99 per month after a promotional period. Introductory prices and plan terms are time-sensitive. YouTube TV is a strong fit for households that want NBC alongside a broad cable-style lineup, unlimited DVR, multiple household accounts, and sports coverage.
Choose it when: you want a full live-TV replacement rather than NBC alone. Watch for: local-affiliate differences, changing prices, and event-specific sports restrictions.

Hulu + Live TV lists NBC among its live local and national networks, subject to regional availability, blackouts, and the service’s Live TV terms. The offering also combines live television with Hulu’s on-demand library and advertised Disney+ and ESPN access.
At the time of research, Hulu listed a plan with ads and Live TV at $89.99 per month after a three-day trial. Confirm the current price, included services, and local lineup before signing up.
Choose it when: you already value Hulu’s on-demand catalog or want NBC bundled with Disney+ and ESPN. Watch for: local-channel restrictions and blackouts, particularly for live sports.
Sling TV
Sling can be a lower-cost live-TV option, but it is not a universal NBC solution. NBC is available only in selected markets and depends on your ZIP code and plan. Those market examples do not replace a location check. Confirm that your local NBC station appears in Sling’s lineup before subscribing. In an unsupported market, an antenna can supplement Sling; Sling also describes AirTV hardware as a way to integrate antenna channels into its ecosystem.
Choose it when: you live in a supported NBC market and want a potentially less expensive live-TV package. Watch for: plan differences, local-channel limitations, and sports blackouts.
Can you watch a free NBC livestream on NBC.com or the NBC app?
Not as an unaffiliated viewer. NBC’s website and apps are free to download or access, but NBC says its live stream requires authorization from a participating TV provider. The service uses your physical location to identify the local NBC station, and both the station and provider must have the necessary agreements.
If you already subscribe to YouTube TV, Sling, or another qualifying provider, you may be able to authenticate in NBC.com or the NBC app instead of watching through the provider’s own app. Authentication is a convenience for existing subscribers; it does not convert the NBC app into a free live-TV service.

Some live events may also be unavailable in the NBC app because of sports-league, event, or rights-holder restrictions. If you are trying to watch a particular game or special, check the event-specific schedule rather than assuming that any NBC login will provide it.

NBC Sports live streams may be available through NBC.com or the NBC app after you authenticate with a cable, satellite, telecommunications, or participating digital-TV provider. When an event is carried by Peacock, you generally watch it through Peacock’s website or app instead.
NBC Sports NOW is promoted as a free 24/7 streaming channel available through Peacock and several free ad-supported streaming distributors. It is useful for sports news and selected programming, but it is not the complete local NBC network feed and does not guarantee access to every live NBC Sports event.

Rights can be split between NBC’s broadcast network, NBC Sports platforms, Peacock, and other services. A provider that carries your local NBC station can still be subject to league blackouts or event-specific restrictions.
