Yes—you can watch Instagram Live on Instagram.com. Open the site, sign in if prompted, then select the creator’s profile picture marked Live. You do not normally need a browser extension. Watching someone else’s broadcast in a browser is different from starting your own: Meta says starting a Live from a computer is not available.
Watch Instagram Live on a desktop browser
- Open Instagram.com in your browser. Sign in to the account you want to use if Instagram asks.
- Open the home feed and look for a creator’s profile picture with a colorful ring and the Live label. You can also visit the creator’s profile and check the profile picture there.
- Click the profile picture to join the broadcast. If the Live is active and available to your account, its video should open.
- Use the available controls to comment, react, like, or share. The controls shown can vary.
Meta’s viewing instructions confirm that Live broadcasts can be watched on Instagram.com as well as in the app. Meta does not publish a complete browser compatibility matrix or a guaranteed logged-out viewing method, so browser behavior may differ by device, account, and rollout.
Try a mobile browser if you do not want to install the app
Open Instagram.com in your phone’s browser and follow the same sign-in and Live-indicator steps. A mobile browser may direct you to the Instagram app or offer a less convenient player; that behavior varies by device and operating system. If the browser will not play the broadcast, the official app is the practical fallback. A browser’s desktop-site option is worth trying, but it is not guaranteed to change Instagram’s behavior.
Know what other viewers may see
Meta says the broadcaster and other viewers may be able to see that someone joined. Comments and likes are visible to others as well. Watching without interacting is not a promise of anonymity, and Meta’s help page does not guarantee that every Live is viewable while logged out. Sign in if prompted, and do not use services claiming to make your viewing invisible or unlock private broadcasts.

While watching, Instagram may offer controls to comment, like or reply to comments, react with an emoji, share the video, or send it in a direct message. Which controls appear can vary. If comments are unavailable, the creator may have restricted them or the account may have another limitation; refreshing or signing in again may help, but watching may still be possible without commenting.
Fix a Live that is missing or will not play
First distinguish a missing broadcast from a playback problem: the creator may not be live, the stream may have ended, or it may not be available to the account you are using. If the profile loads but the video fails, try these general browser recovery steps; they are troubleshooting suggestions, not Meta-published playback requirements.

- Confirm the broadcast is still active, then refresh the page.
- Check that you are signed in to the intended account. If the session looks stuck, sign out and back in.
- Try another current mainstream browser, such as Chrome, Edge, Safari, or Firefox.
- If the page layout or player is broken, temporarily disable ad, script, or privacy-blocking extensions for Instagram. A private window can help identify an extension or stale-session problem.
- If login loops or old page elements persist, clear Instagram site data, then sign in again.
- Try another network or device if playback keeps buffering. If the stream works on a phone but not in the browser, use the app or another supported device.
Meta’s cited help material does not specify a minimum browser version, bandwidth threshold, or required cookie setting. If other sites work but Instagram does not, wait and try again rather than entering your password on an unofficial viewer.
Find out whether a replay is available
A Live does not automatically remain available to viewers after it ends. The creator must share a replay for others to watch it. Meta says a shared replay may be found through the creator’s profile video or Reels area, depending on the interface. Replays do not retain the original Live’s likes or comments. Saving a Live to a device is a creator-side option, not a general viewer download feature. Meta says creators can download their own video immediately after ending a broadcast; the downloaded file does not include comments, likes, or viewer information. Details are in Meta’s instructions for saving a Live.
Do you need an extension or an anonymous viewer site?
No extension is normally needed for ordinary browser viewing: Meta documents watching on Instagram.com. Guides that say an extension is mandatory conflict with that official guidance and may be outdated. Extensions can also request broad permissions, become incompatible when Instagram changes, or interfere with playback.

Use Instagram.com directly or a saved official bookmark. Avoid sites and downloads promising anonymous viewing, access to private profiles, or deleted broadcasts—especially anything asking for your Instagram password outside Instagram’s own login page. Do not try to bypass a private account’s access controls.

Watching is not the same as broadcasting
You can watch someone else’s Live on Instagram.com, but Meta’s current instructions for starting a Live say the feature is not available on computers and direct creators to supported mobile devices.
