To remove a song from a playlist you can edit, open it on desktop, right-click the track or open its three-dot menu, and choose Remove from this Playlist. In the Spotify mobile app, open the playlist, tap Edit, then tap the remove control beside the song. The track is removed from that playlist, not from Spotify or your other playlists. Spotify’s playlist instructions cover both methods.
Remove a song from a Spotify playlist on desktop
- Open Spotify for Windows or Mac, or open the Spotify Web Player, and select Your Library.
- Open the playlist you want to change and find the track.
- Right-click the track, or open the three-dot menu beside it.
- Select Remove from this Playlist. The track should disappear from the playlist.
You generally do not need to enter a separate editing screen to remove a single track on desktop. This option applies when you own the playlist or otherwise have permission to edit it.
Remove a song on iPhone, iPad, or Android
- Open Spotify and go to Your Library.
- Open the playlist you can edit.
- Tap Edit near the playlist header.
- Tap the Remove control beside the unwanted track, then leave editing when finished.
Spotify documents the Edit then Remove path, though layouts and icons can differ between iOS, Android, and app versions. If you do not see Edit, check whether you own the playlist or have collaborator access.
Can you remove several songs at once?
Spotify announced a rollout of in-playlist bulk actions on May 28, 2026. The controls may not be available on every device, account, or app version. If your playlist shows a multi-select or bulk-edit control, select the tracks and use its remove action; otherwise, remove tracks one at a time with the steps above. Spotify’s announcement describes the rollout.

If you cannot edit the playlist
Following or saving another person’s playlist does not usually give you permission to change its contents. Spotify distinguishes removing songs from playlists you can edit from hiding songs in playlists made by Spotify or another user. To keep a song in the playlist but have Spotify skip it, open the track’s three-dot menu and choose Hide this song, if that option is available. A hidden track stays in the playlist and can be unhidden later. Spotify explains hiding and unhiding songs.
- Make a personal copy: From the playlist’s three-dot menu, choose Add to other playlist and add its tracks to a playlist you control. Remove the unwanted song from your copy, not the original. Spotify documents adding playlist tracks to another playlist.
- Ask the owner: If you need the original changed, ask its owner to remove the track or invite you as a collaborator.
Removing a song from a collaborative playlist
Collaborators can add, remove, and reorder tracks, but a shared playlist link alone does not necessarily grant editing access. If you are an invited collaborator, use the usual desktop or mobile removal steps. If the option is missing, confirm that you joined as a collaborator rather than only following the playlist. Spotify’s collaborative-playlist guidance covers permissions.

If you own the playlist and want to stop someone from making further changes, you can remove that person as a collaborator. On mobile, tap the profile pictures beneath the playlist name, tap the three-dot menu beside the person, and choose Remove as collaborator. On desktop, click the profile pictures and use the control beside the collaborator’s name to remove them.
Removing a playlist entry is not the same as deleting a song
Remove from this Playlist removes that entry from that playlist only. The song can remain in Liked Songs, other playlists, search results, albums, and the artist’s page. Unliking a song changes its status in Liked Songs; unfollowing a playlist removes it from your library without editing its owner’s playlist; deleting a playlist deletes the playlist itself. These are different actions.

If the song keeps playing, check the queue
Removing a track from a playlist does not necessarily remove a copy already in your Play Queue. Open Play Queue and remove the track there if you want playback to stop. Queue management and playlist editing are separate controls; Spotify discussed queue changes separately in its May 2026 announcement.
Remove a download without changing the playlist
If your goal is to free device storage, use Spotify’s download controls rather than removing the track from the playlist. Playlist membership and offline copies are separate: a track may also be downloaded through another playlist, an album, or Liked Songs. Removing it from one playlist does not guarantee that every offline copy is deleted. Spotify’s offline downloads are a Premium feature; see its offline-download information.

Undo or recover a change
If you removed the wrong track, try the immediate undo shortcut on desktop: Cmd-Z on Mac or Ctrl-Shift-Z on Windows. Spotify lists these shortcuts in its playlist recovery guidance. If undo is unavailable, search for the track and add it back to the playlist. Spotify does not document a guaranteed version-history tool for restoring one removed track. Its recovery option for a deleted playlist is different: deleted playlists can be restored within 90 days.

- The app has not refreshed: Close and reopen the playlist, then check again.
- It is another version or duplicate: Compare the artist, album, remix or live label, explicit or clean version, duration, and release. Remove each unwanted entry separately.
- You are viewing a different playlist or account: Confirm the playlist name and the Spotify account you are using.
- It is a recommendation, not a playlist entry: Tracks suggested below a playlist are not necessarily part of its track list.
- A collaborator added it again: Ask collaborators or review access if the playlist is shared.
- The app is out of date or showing stale data: Check the playlist on another device or in the Web Player, update Spotify, and, if needed, sign out and back in.
