For recent listening on a phone or tablet, open Home → your profile picture → Recents. In the Spotify desktop app, choose Play Queue → Recents to see the last 50 songs. For older or lifetime listening records, request Extended Streaming History through your Spotify Account Privacy page.
View recent Spotify history on iPhone or Android
- Open the Spotify app and tap Home.
- Tap your profile picture or avatar at the top of the screen.
- Tap Recents.
- Use the filters at the top, when available, to narrow the list—for example, to music.
Spotify’s current support instructions call this section “Recents”. It can include recent music, podcasts, and audiobooks on mobile and tablet. Labels and layouts may vary by app version, language, or market. Older guides may show a menu item called “Listening History”; that is not the current universal path.
See recent songs in the Spotify desktop app
- Open the installed Spotify desktop app.
- Click Play Queue at the bottom of the window.
- Select Recents.
Spotify says this view shows the last 50 songs you listened to, so it is a short recent list—not an archive of everything played on your account. Spotify documents this path for the desktop app. Do not assume it is also available in the web player at open.spotify.com; the support instructions do not establish that.

If the play you want is no longer in Recents, request your account data. Spotify’s privacy policy points to the Download your data tool on the Account Privacy page. Sign in to your Spotify account, open Account Privacy, find Download your data, and request the relevant package. Choose Extended Streaming History if it is offered and you need a record reaching back across the account’s lifetime. Follow the status and download instructions shown in your account; delivery timing is not guaranteed here.

Spotify distinguishes two history packages in its data guide:
- Streaming History covers the past year. Its records can include when a stream ended (in UTC), the creator or artist, the track, video, or podcast title, and
msPlayed—the number of milliseconds played. - Extended Streaming History covers audio, video, and podcasts listened to during the lifetime of the account. Depending on the record, it can include the item and artist or show, Spotify URI, playback platform, country, IP address, user agent, play duration, whether it was skipped, shuffle or offline status, and reasons playback started or ended. The export may also indicate whether playback occurred in a private session.
The download is data files, not a playlist or an indefinitely scrollable screen inside Spotify. A row does not necessarily mean you completed a song or deliberately chose it: check its playback duration and context.

Read and search the downloaded files
The export uses structured data, including JSON files. You can open a file in a text editor or use a spreadsheet or data-analysis tool that can import JSON. Look for the track or episode title, artist or show, timestamp, and msPlayed. Extended records may also provide platform, skip status, and playback start or end reasons. Field names and file organization can differ between packages, so use the fields present in your own download rather than relying on a filename or column layout from another user’s export.

Spotify documents stream-end times in UTC, not necessarily your local time. Convert the timestamp to your time zone when matching a play to a particular day or listening session; daylight-saving changes can affect the conversion. Because extended files may contain location and device-related information such as IP address, country, and user agent, store them securely and avoid uploading them to services you do not trust.

Why a song may be missing from Recents
- You need an older play: mobile Recents is a recent-activity view, and desktop Recents is limited to the last 50 songs. Request the data download for a longer record.
- You are in the wrong account: confirm the profile currently signed in is the one used when listening.
- The menu looks different: return to Home and open the avatar menu; update or restart the app if Recents is not visible. Spotify may use different layouts across versions or markets.
- You are using the web player: the documented desktop path is for the installed app, and Spotify’s support page does not clearly promise the same control in a browser.
- Recent activity has not appeared yet: check the account and device again after allowing time for activity to synchronize. For an important older record, use the account-data download rather than treating the panel as complete.
Spotify’s privacy policy says it retains streaming history for the life of an account subject to its retention rules, and uses it for features such as recommendations and retrospective playlists. That does not mean every historical play is shown in the app’s Recents panel.

Recents is for quickly checking recent activity. Streaming History and Extended Streaming History are downloadable account records for looking further back or analyzing plays. Spotify Wrapped is a periodic summary—Spotify lists items such as top artists, top tracks, and listening time separately from streaming-history data. Wrapped is not a complete list of every listening event.

The public Get Recently Played Tracks API is another distinct option for developers: Spotify describes it as returning recently played tracks and notes that it does not currently support podcast episodes. That API limitation should not be confused with the consumer app’s Recents feature or the downloadable history packages.
