You can make a podcast livestream feel recurring by scheduling each episode in YouTube Studio and using Reuse settings to carry over your previous setup. YouTube’s documented workflow creates a new scheduled stream each time; it does not establish an automatic weekly or repeating calendar event. Schedule every episode separately, then check its details before sharing the watch page.
What “recurring” means in YouTube Studio
YouTube Studio supports scheduled livestreams and lets you reuse a previous stream’s settings. That makes it easier to keep a regular show format, but it is not a recurring-event scheduler: create a separate scheduled stream for every episode. Reusing settings copies metadata, settings, and the stream key, so treat the result as a starting point rather than a finished episode listing. YouTube’s live stream settings guidance explains the reuse option.
This workflow suits a podcast with a predictable broadcast time. You can schedule and manage the event in YouTube Studio; if your show needs external microphones or cameras, multiple sources, or more involved production, connect an encoder as well.
Before scheduling your first episode
- Check channel eligibility. YouTube says first-time live-stream activation may take up to 24 hours. The channel must be verified, have no live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days, and the person livestreaming must be at least 16. See YouTube’s getting-started guidance.
- Allow time to activate. If you have never livestreamed from the channel, enable the feature well before your first episode; approval may take up to 24 hours.
- Decide how the audience should see the event. Choose public, unlisted, or private intentionally. YouTube’s default privacy setting differs by age: it defaults to private for users aged 13–17 and public for users 18 or older. Verify the setting rather than relying on the default.
- Prepare the show details. Have the episode title, description, date, start time, and visibility ready. Consider what viewers need to know to recognize the show and episode.
Schedule each podcast episode
- In YouTube Studio, select Create > Go Live to open Live Control Room.
- Select Manage, then Schedule Stream.
- Choose Reuse settings to start from an earlier episode, or Create new for a fresh setup. Reuse is useful for a consistent show format, but it carries over the previous stream’s metadata, settings, and stream key.
- Review and update the new event’s title, description, date, time, visibility, and every other detail that should differ from the previous episode. Check any copied information that could mislead viewers.
- Save the scheduled stream. Open its watch page and share the URL where you announce episodes. Viewers can see the upcoming event and opt into reminders. YouTube notes that scheduling lets you promote a stream.
- Repeat these steps for every episode. Reuse settings does not schedule the next episode automatically.
For a regular series, settle on a repeatable title and description format, but make the episode-specific information clear. If the date or time changes after you share the page, tell your audience through the channels where you announced it.

Connect an encoder and start the show
If you are using an encoder for microphones, cameras, or a more involved production, connect it to the scheduled YouTube stream. A stream key functions as a credential for sending your feed, so keep it private and do not publish or share it with people who should not control the broadcast.
- In Live Control Room, open the scheduled stream and locate its stream URL and stream key.
- In your encoder, select YouTube if it offers a direct YouTube connection. Otherwise, paste the YouTube stream URL into the encoder’s server or RTMP field and the stream key into its stream-key field. YouTube’s encoder instructions describe this connection.
- Start sending the feed from the encoder. Wait for the video and audio preview to appear in Live Control Room.
- Check the preview, then click Go live for the scheduled stream.
- While live, monitor stream health and audio and video quality. When the episode is finished, click End Stream in Live Control Room and stop the encoder from sending.
YouTube recommends setting up the encoder at least 2 hours before an event and starting it at least 15 minutes before the scheduled start. These are preparation recommendations, not guarantees of a flawless broadcast. For a first episode, leave additional time to test your actual equipment and production. See YouTube’s live-streaming tips.

Choose encoder settings for your setup
There is no single bitrate that fits every podcast stream. The suitable settings depend on resolution, frame rate, encoder, and the upload capacity and stability of your internet connection. Use YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrate, and resolution guidance alongside your encoder’s options. YouTube recommends RTMPS as a secure connection option.
- Choose a resolution and frame rate your production and network can sustain.
- Match the encoder’s codec, keyframe interval, audio configuration, and bitrate to YouTube’s supported settings and the encoder’s available controls.
- Run an upload-speed check and test with audio and movement similar to the real show; a static test screen may not reveal problems that appear during a live conversation or video playback.
- Check the Live Control Room preview before going live, and keep an eye on stream health during the broadcast.
Promote, archive, and monetize responsibly
Share the scheduled watch page
A scheduled event gives listeners a page to visit before the show and a way to request a reminder. Share that page in your normal episode announcements, and update the audience if the schedule changes. YouTube also offers optional trailer settings; its listed eligibility requirements are more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guidelines strikes. A trailer is not required to schedule a podcast stream. Details are in Manage live stream settings.

End the stream deliberately
According to YouTube’s encoder help page, streams under 12 hours are automatically archived and can be accessed on the Studio Live tab. End the stream in Live Control Room and stop the encoder when the episode is over; do not assume that simply stopping the encoder is the complete end-of-show workflow.
Check eligibility before promising monetization
Live-stream monetization may be available to channels in the YouTube Partner Program; it is not a guaranteed feature or income result for every channel. Check your channel’s eligibility and current YouTube terms rather than presenting monetization as automatic.

Troubleshoot common scheduling and livestream problems
- You cannot start a livestream yet: confirm the channel is verified and eligible, check for restrictions in the past 90 days, and allow up to 24 hours for first-time activation.
- The wrong episode details appear on the watch page: Reuse settings carried over the previous event’s details. Edit the title, description, date, time, visibility, and other copied information before sharing the new page.
- The encoder is connected but no preview appears: check that you used the correct stream URL and key for this scheduled event, that the encoder is sending, and that the Live Control Room page is showing the matching stream. Keep the key private.
- The preview appears, but the scheduled show has not started: for a scheduled stream, click Go live in Live Control Room after the preview appears.
- Video or audio quality is unstable: check stream health, confirm that the encoder settings fit your resolution and connection, run an upload-speed check, and test a representative production before the next broadcast.
- The episode time changes: correct the event details and notify the audience wherever you shared the watch-page URL.
- You cannot find the replay: check the Studio Live tab and whether the stream was under 12 hours, the duration YouTube identifies for automatic archiving.
