You can’t use Streamlabs Music in a YouTube stream now: Streamlabs discontinued the app, and it stopped working in Streamlabs Desktop on April 1, 2025. If you used it before, Streamlabs says music from the app remains DMCA-free in past recordings and YouTube uploads. For new streams, choose music with a license that covers your live broadcast and any archive, or use YouTube’s Audio Library.
What happened to Streamlabs Music?
Streamlabs removed the app from the app store for new users on March 6, 2025. Existing users could keep using it until the end of March; Streamlabs’ support notice says it was no longer available in Streamlabs Desktop starting April 1, 2025. The notice was published March 5, 2025 and last updated August 30, 2025. Its old installation and player instructions are no longer actionable. Streamlabs: Changes to Streamlabs Music.
Streamlabs says music previously used from the app remains DMCA-free in past recorded streams and YouTube uploads. That statement concerns past use of Streamlabs Music; it does not grant permission to use unrelated music or new tracks in future broadcasts.
What music can you use in a YouTube livestream?
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. If it detects a match, it may replace the stream with a placeholder and warn you; if the content continues, the stream may be interrupted or terminated. If you archive a live stream, YouTube says Content ID claims may be made after the stream ends. YouTube’s livestream terms also require creators to have the rights needed for their live content, including music licensing rights. YouTube Help: Copyright issues with live streams.

Use YouTube Audio Library music
YouTube recommends its Audio Library for copyright-safe music and sound effects. Check the terms shown for each track, including whether attribution is required. YouTube Help: Use music and sound effects from the Audio Library.
Check third-party music licenses before streaming
For music from another service, read the license for the specific track. Confirm that it covers YouTube livestreams, your territory, an archived video or VOD, and your intended monetization. “Free” labeling or adding a credit to the description does not by itself establish permission. A service’s “DMCA-safe” label is not a substitute for checking its applicable license.

Current music options listed by Streamlabs
Streamlabs currently lists Pretzel Rocks Music Player and Slip.stream as music options. These descriptions explain Streamlabs’ stated access and product positioning, not a guarantee of rights for every track, platform, country, archive, or monetization use. Check the current service and track terms before going live.
| Option | Access and controls described by Streamlabs | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Pretzel Rocks Music Player | Streamlabs describes a free player and an upgrade for more tracks. | Slip.stream | Streamlabs describes access for Streamlabs Ultra subscribers. Its product page advertises over 600,000 “DMCA safe” tracks; that is Streamlabs’ claim, not an independently verified count or a track-by-track licensing guarantee. How to let viewers request videos with Media Share
Media Share and Cloudbot are separate from the discontinued Streamlabs Music player. Media Share can accept links to public YouTube videos; it is a viewer-submission workflow, not a way to restore Streamlabs Music. A requested video may contain music or other material you do not have rights to broadcast, so review submissions and consider YouTube’s copyright rules before playing them.

- Choose how submissions appear. Set whether incoming videos appear automatically or remain hidden for manual review. Configure queue and duration controls to suit your stream.
- Enable Cloudbot if you want chat requests. In Cloudbot, enable the Media Share module, configure its preferences and commands, and set request limits. Streamlabs says the
!requestcommand requires a link. - Add the widget to your scene. Enable the Media Share widget and add it as a source in Streamlabs Desktop. In other streaming software, add its widget URL as a browser source.
- Moderate the queue while live. Use the available queue, volume, skip, and blacklist controls. Test the flow before inviting requests, and do not assume that a public YouTube link is cleared for your broadcast.
Streamlabs’ setup instructions describe these Media Share functions, but some of its broader guide is Twitch-specific; do not treat those Twitch moderation steps as YouTube integration instructions. Streamlabs: How to Set Up Media Share in Streamlabs.
Common problems and what to do
- The Streamlabs Music app is missing or its player no longer works: that is expected after discontinuation. Use a current music option and verify its license rather than following old setup steps.
- A live stream receives a copyright warning or interruption: stop the questionable track or video. Review the rights for the exact content and the intended live and archived uses before trying again.
- A viewer’s request does not play: confirm Media Share is enabled, the widget is present in the scene, and the submitted link is to a public YouTube video. If using chat requests, check that Cloudbot’s Media Share module and command are enabled and that request limits or queue settings are not blocking it.
- You are unsure whether a music service covers archives or monetization: do not infer those rights from a “free” or “DMCA-safe” label. Check the track’s license or choose music whose terms clearly cover the use you intend.
