A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11To put a QR code on a YouTube live stream, add the code image to a scene in an encoder such as OBS, position it in the outgoing picture, then test the actual stream on a viewer device before going live. YouTube’s encoder workflow gives you control over custom visuals; a QR code is not something you add in YouTube’s Live Control Room itself.
Before adding a QR code: check your stream and destination
Decide what viewers should do after scanning—open a documentary resource, visit a project page, or follow another clear call to action. Use a destination that is useful and stable, and make the on-screen message match it. A short, understandable URL can also help viewers recognize where the code leads.
Confirm that your channel can livestream before preparing the broadcast. YouTube’s current help guidance requires a verified channel without live-stream restrictions during the previous 90 days and says creators must be at least 16. Availability and feature behavior can vary with account, region, audience settings, and platform policy, so check your channel’s live settings before the event. See YouTube’s live-streaming requirements and methods.
Keep the YouTube stream key private: treat it like a password, and never include it in the QR code or on-screen graphics. If you believe it has been exposed, reset it in Live Control Room. YouTube’s encoder instructions are at Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Add the QR code to an OBS stream
- Prepare the code image. Save a clear image of the QR code on the computer running OBS. Before the show, scan it yourself and confirm that it opens the intended destination.
- Add an image source. In OBS, select the scene for the broadcast. In the Sources panel, choose +, select Image, create a source or choose an existing one, and select the QR image file. OBS explains image sources and their placement in its Sources Guide.
- Position and size it. Place the code where it does not cover faces, documentary footage, captions, logos, or other essential graphics. Resize it in the OBS preview and keep it square rather than stretching it. Locking the source after positioning is a useful way to avoid moving it accidentally during the stream.
- Connect OBS to YouTube. In YouTube Live Control Room, create or open the stream and copy its server URL and stream key into OBS’s stream settings. YouTube’s encoder flow is: enter the URL and key, start the encoder, wait for the preview in Live Control Room, then select Go live.
- Run a test and check the viewer output. YouTube recommends testing ahead of time, and OBS recommends a test stream. Use YouTube’s preview and, if appropriate, a public or unlisted test stream. Watch the encoded output at a normal viewer quality and scan the code with a phone or other likely viewer device. Confirm that it is visible, unobstructed, scannable, and opens the right page. YouTube’s preparation guidance is in YouTube live streaming tips; OBS’s test guidance is in its Quick Start Guide.
- Go live and manage the call to action. Once the preview and test are right, start the stream in Live Control Room. If the QR prompt is only relevant for part of the programme, switch to a scene without it when that segment ends.
Make the code work in the format viewers watch
Horizontal streams
YouTube’s current comparison says horizontal live streams retain clickable links in chat and the channel description. A QR code can still offer a direct visual route, but make sure any spoken or written instruction reflects the options available to your audience.
Vertical live streams
YouTube says vertical live streams may be discoverable in the Shorts feed, but clickable links in chat and the channel description are unavailable in the vertical live feed. That makes the QR code more useful as a route to the destination, while making phone-screen readability especially important. Check the final vertical output on a phone rather than assuming a code that scans on a desktop will be convenient in the feed. See YouTube’s comparison of horizontal and vertical live streams.

Audience and replay considerations
Streams marked made for kids lose some features, including live chat, under YouTube’s live-streaming restrictions. If your call to action depends on chat, account for that limitation. YouTube also says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; consider whether the QR destination and prompt will remain appropriate in the replay.
Common problems and fixes
- The code looks clear in OBS but cannot be scanned in the stream: inspect the encoded viewer output, not just the OBS canvas. Recheck on a phone at normal viewing quality, simplify surrounding graphics, and adjust its on-screen size or position before testing again. No official YouTube or OBS source establishes a universal scan-size or display-time threshold.
- The code is hidden or competes with the programme: move it away from captions, faces, logos, and other overlays; verify its visibility in the final composition.
- The code opens the wrong page or no page: scan the image from the actual output and verify the destination before going live. Replace the image if the destination changes.
- The encoder preview does not appear: confirm that OBS is sending to the correct YouTube server URL and stream key, and that the encoder is started. Wait for the preview in Live Control Room before selecting Go live.
- The chat instruction does not work for some viewers: check whether viewers are watching a vertical live feed or whether the stream is marked made for kids; YouTube’s feature availability differs in those cases.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your documentary channel also needs uploaded programmes to stay live on YouTube around the clock, StreamNeo is a separate cloud option: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it plays uploaded videos, not a live camera feed. Each slot streams at the quality uploaded, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot, with no re-encode or quality tiers. If YouTube drops the stream, StreamNeo automatically recovers. The first day is free with no card, and the Monthly price is $9.99 per month. UPI and cards are available in India; card checkout is available worldwide. This is for YouTube only, not for adding a QR overlay to a live camera or encoder production. Start the free day with StreamNeo.
