You can still ask Siri to play Apple Music if you have an eligible Individual, Family or Student subscription. This guide explains how the old plan worked and how to use Siri playback now.
What happened to the Apple Music Voice Plan?
Apple introduced Apple Music Voice on October 18, 2021 as a subscription centered on Siri. At launch, Apple said subscribers could start a trial by saying, “Hey Siri, start my Apple Music Voice trial,” or by subscribing in the Apple Music app. That was a launch-era instruction, not a working signup route today.

Apple priced the plan at US$4.99 per month in the United States at launch and announced an initial rollout in 17 countries and regions: Australia, Austria, Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, Spain, Taiwan, the United Kingdom and the United States. These are October 2021 details, not current prices or proof the plan remains available in those markets. Apple has not published a current price for your region in the guidance cited here.
For the discontinuation, the available reporting is from TechCrunch, November 2023. Apple’s current Siri help page instead describes playback for Individual, Family and Student Apple Music subscribers. Check Apple’s offers in your country before choosing a subscription.

How to use Siri with Apple Music now
Apple says Individual, Family and Student subscribers can use Siri to play music from the catalog, find songs by lyrics, add music to a library and more. Try a direct request such as:
- “Hey Siri, play [song] by [artist].”
- “Siri, play some [genre] music.”
- “Hey Siri, play music for [activity or mood].”
- “Siri, play more music like this.”
- “Hey Siri, skip this song.”
You can also ask Siri to identify a song, play an album or playlist, or use controls such as pause, repeat and volume. Apple notes that available requests vary by language, country and region; Apple Music itself is also not available everywhere.

How the old Voice Plan differed from a full subscription
Apple presented Voice as a voice-first way to access music, playlists, personalized mixes, genre stations and Apple Music Radio. The launch announcement named HomePod mini, AirPods, iPhone, CarPlay, iPad, Apple Watch, Apple TV and Mac as playback devices. Those are historical launch details, not a guarantee of current plan or device availability.

The Voice Plan also omitted features available with fuller Apple Music access. Apple’s launch announcement excluded Spatial Audio, Lossless Audio, lyrics and music videos. Apple later said Apple Music Classical was not available with Voice, and its watchOS 9 guide said adding music was not available on the plan. These limitations describe the discontinued tier, not necessarily every current subscription or device configuration.
Apple’s October 2021 announcement cited a catalog of 90 million songs, tens of thousands of playlists and hundreds of new mood and activity playlists. Those were launch-era Apple figures, not current catalog or playlist counts.
