A YouTube playlist’s Loop control repeats playback for someone watching the playlist; it does not create or transmit a live broadcast. To make a continuous lofi live stream, create a YouTube Live event, then use an encoder to send YouTube a live audio-and-video feed. The playlist can be the source material for that feed, but the playlist Loop button is not a substitute for the encoder connection.
What you need before you start
- A verified YouTube channel with no live-streaming restriction in the past 90 days. YouTube says first-time live-streaming activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it ahead of your planned start. See YouTube’s live-streaming tips and encoder setup guidance.
- An encoder: software on a computer or standalone hardware that sends the audiovisual feed to YouTube. YouTube describes an encoder as software or hardware that prepares and transmits the stream; its guide explains that “An encoder converts your video into a digital format to stream on YouTube.”
- Audio and visuals you have permission to broadcast. A track appearing in a YouTube playlist does not establish that you have rights to rebroadcast it live. Check permissions for every track, image, animation, and other visual before you stream.
- A stable internet connection with enough upload capacity for the encoder’s selected bitrate, plus headroom for fluctuations.
Set up the YouTube live stream
- Enable live streaming early. Confirm channel verification and eligibility in YouTube Studio. If this is the channel’s first live stream, allow up to 24 hours for activation.
- Create or schedule the event. In YouTube Studio, open the live-streaming workflow and create or schedule a stream. Configure its title, description, visibility, and other event details for the audience and content.
- Copy the connection details. In the stream’s settings, retrieve the YouTube Live server URL and stream key, then enter both in your encoder. Treat the key like a password: anyone who has it may be able to send a feed to your stream. Do not publish it or include it in a screenshot.
- Prepare the encoder’s feed. Select the audio and visual source that will form the broadcast, and configure the encoder to send it to YouTube using the server URL and key. YouTube’s official instructions establish the encoder connection, but do not specify a built-in method that automatically converts a YouTube playlist into an encoder source. Confirm how your chosen encoder supplies and repeats the material instead of assuming the playlist’s viewer-side Loop control will feed the live stream.
Make the lofi program repeat
On a computer, YouTube’s playlist instructions say to open a video in the playlist, expand the playlist, and select Loop. That repeats playback for the viewer. It does not send the playlist to YouTube Live, and clicking it alone will not turn a playlist into a live stream.
For a broadcast, the encoder must continuously send the audiovisual program. Set up your chosen source and encoder so the feed continues through the intended run, and verify the behavior in a test before relying on it. Since the official YouTube pages reviewed do not identify a specific playlist-to-encoder automation feature, the exact steps for repeating source material depend on the encoder and playback workflow you choose.
Test the stream and monitor it
- Start sending the feed from the encoder and check the Live Control Room preview before starting the public broadcast.
- Confirm that the watch page is accessible to the intended audience and that the event’s visibility is correct.
- Listen for clean, continuous audio and check that the visual feed is moving as intended. Verify that the material returns to the beginning when it should.
- Watch YouTube’s stream-health information and the encoder’s connection status during the broadcast.
- Make sure the total outgoing bitrate fits the available upload bandwidth. YouTube’s streaming tips say: “The total bitrate you’re streaming cannot exceed the amount of upload bandwidth available. Leave a bit of room (20% recommended).”
Plan around long-stream limits
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. For streams longer than 12 hours, DVR rewind may be limited or unavailable. If a complete replay or rewind matters, plan the event length accordingly rather than assuming that a playlist loop creates an uninterrupted archive. YouTube’s DVR guidance explains the rewind caveat; its encoder guide describes the automatic-archive threshold.

Common problems and fixes
- The playlist repeats for viewers, but there is no live broadcast: the playlist Loop control only repeats playback. Create a YouTube Live event and connect an encoder with the event’s server URL and stream key.
- The encoder will not connect: check that live streaming is enabled for the channel, confirm the event is ready, and re-enter the correct server URL and stream key. Keep the key private.
- The preview is unstable or the stream health is poor: check the encoder’s outgoing bitrate against available upload capacity and reduce it if necessary. Leave the 20% bandwidth headroom YouTube recommends.
- The picture or audio stops repeating: inspect the source and encoder’s repeat behavior. Do not infer that a YouTube playlist’s Loop setting controls the encoder feed; test the full path before the scheduled stream.
- You cannot rewind or find a complete archive after a very long event: streams longer than 12 hours may have limited or unavailable DVR rewind. For a replay that matters, keep the broadcast under that threshold and confirm the archive after the event.
- A track or visual is challenged or removed: stop using material unless you can confirm you have the necessary rights to broadcast it. Technical ability to play a video does not grant rebroadcast permission.
