Yes—an older, low-end PC can run a YouTube radio-style livestream if you keep the OBS scene simple, choose an encoder setting the computer and internet connection can sustain, and verify it with a long test. It is not a guarantee of uninterrupted 24/7 service: the PC, power and network must all remain available, and the music must be cleared for public livestreaming.
Before you start: channel, PC and rights
Enable YouTube live streaming early
Your channel must be verified and have live streaming enabled. YouTube says first-time activation can take up to 24 hours. A channel with a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days cannot stream, and streamers must be at least 16. Check YouTube Studio for eligibility or restrictions before preparing the broadcast: YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
There is no universal minimum PC specification
OBS Studio is free and open source, but a computer that meets OBS’s basic system requirements is not necessarily capable of streaming reliably. The workload depends on codec, resolution, frame rate and scene complexity. For a low-end machine, begin with one static or lightweight visual, an audio source, and only essential text or branding. Avoid animated overlays and browser sources until the computer passes a sustained test. See the OBS system requirements and official OBS Project site.
Clear the music for this use
Use music only when the rights cover a public online livestream in the relevant territory. Buying a track, crediting its artist, or having a consumer music subscription does not by itself show that you may broadcast it publicly. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content and can interrupt a broadcast; even licensed material may require the rights holder to add your channel to a Content ID allowlist. For India, the Copyright Act, 1957 defines “communication to the public” broadly and lists it as a right for musical works and sound recordings. The statute does not determine whether a particular individual stream qualifies under a broadcasting route or exception; that depends on the facts, the works and the applicable rights. For a commercial station, obtain written permission that specifically covers online public livestreaming and resolve any Content ID allowlisting before launch. Set up the radio stream in OBS
- Install OBS Studio. Download it from the official OBS Project site. Keep the initial setup light: make one scene, add a still image or lightweight visual, add your audio source, and add only necessary text or branding. Test the actual soundtrack and visual rather than assuming a quiet desktop preview predicts streaming performance.
- Create an encoder stream in YouTube Studio. In YouTube Studio, create or schedule a live stream using an encoder. Copy the server URL and stream key provided in the Live Control Room. In OBS, open Settings > Stream, select YouTube or the relevant YouTube ingest option, then enter the stream details. Keep the stream key private: anyone with it may be able to broadcast to your channel.
- Choose modest output settings first. For a radio visual, try H.264 at 480p30 or 720p30. YouTube’s encoder guidance lists the following bitrate figures for H.264:

These are YouTube’s encoder guidance, not a promise that your PC or connection can sustain the output. Choose a bitrate your upload line can maintain with practical headroom; there is no single safe upload-speed margin for every connection. - Set rate control and keyframes. Use CBR rate control and a two-second keyframe interval; YouTube recommends two seconds and says not to exceed four. Use RTMPS for secure ingestion where available. Enter the bitrate and keyframe settings in OBS under Settings > Output, then check Settings > Video for resolution and frame rate.
- Start the encoder and check YouTube’s preview. Start streaming in OBS. In YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, confirm the preview and stream health before using its controls to go live. Watch for warnings rather than assuming that a successful OBS connection means viewers are receiving a healthy stream.
Prove the setup can last before calling it 24/7
Run a multi-hour private or unlisted test with the real music, visual and intended settings before relying on the system. Monitor:
- Dropped frames and OBS encoder-overload warnings.
- Whether audio continues cleanly and stays in sync.
- PC temperatures and whether the machine remains responsive.
- Network interruptions and YouTube stream-health messages.
- Power behavior, including what happens after a brief outage or restart.
For continuous operation, the weak link may be the computer, router, internet connection or electricity. YouTube advises choosing a quality reliable for the connection and testing it; OBS also warns that compatible hardware does not guarantee streaming capability. The guidance does not establish a universal Indian broadband speed, low-end PC specification or household uptime guarantee.

A UPS for the PC and router is an optional way to bridge some brief power interruptions, not a YouTube requirement. It will not fix an internet outage, and choosing a capacity requires knowing the equipment load and the backup time you need.

A 24-hour broadcast may not become one complete replay
YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured. If a native replay matters, plan shorter sessions. A local recording is another possibility only if the PC can handle the extra workload and you have enough storage. See YouTube’s live-stream archiving guidance.

Rights clearance does not guarantee monetization
Monetization requires YouTube Partner Program eligibility, review and compliance with the policies that apply to live content. YouTube’s described full YPP threshold is 1,000 subscribers plus either 4,000 valid public watch hours in the previous 12 months or 10 million valid public Shorts views in the previous 90 days; meeting a threshold does not remove the review requirement. YouTube’s monetization policy expects original, authentic material and says repetitive or mass-produced content can be ineligible. A continuous loop of third-party tracks under an unchanged still image is therefore a substantial monetization risk, even if you have music rights. Original programming, meaningful curation, host segments or other real viewer value may help distinguish a station, but do not assume they guarantee acceptance or ad earnings.
