What “free” means for MLS in 2026
There is no legitimate, permanent free stream of every MLS match in 2026. 1. Use the Apple TV free trial
Apple advertises a seven-day Apple TV trial for eligible new subscribers. During that period, the account can access the Apple TV MLS package rather than just one free match. That makes this the closest legal option to watching a large portion of MLS for free, but it is not an ongoing free service.

How to start the trial
- Open the Apple TV app or visit Apple TV on the web.
- Sign in with an Apple Account. Apple may call this an Apple ID in some older support material.
- Review the offer shown for your account and confirm that you qualify as a new or otherwise eligible subscriber.
- Start the trial before the match or matches you want to watch.
- Set a calendar reminder to cancel before the renewal date if you do not want a paid subscription.
The exact price shown after the trial, as well as eligibility, is controlled by Apple and can vary by country, account history, device, promotion, or billing flow. Check the confirmation screen rather than relying on an old price quoted in a guide. A previous qualifying trial may also make an account ineligible for another one.
What the trial includes
For the 2026 season, Apple TV is the official full-season destination for MLS. The package includes the regular season and the league’s major competitions, including Leagues Cup, the All-Star Game, Campeones Cup, and the MLS Cup Playoffs. The official 2026 arrangement is described as having no blackouts.
“No blackouts” does not mean “free.” It describes availability for Apple TV subscribers. Once the trial ends, access depends on whether you keep the subscription.
2. Find matches marked free with an Apple Account
MLS and Apple have also made selected matches or match windows available without an MLS subscription. When a listing is designated Free, viewers generally need to sign in with an Apple Account, not start the full paid package.

How to check for a free match
- Open the live MLS schedule or the MLS section in the Apple TV app.
- Browse to the match you want to watch.
- Look for a visible Free label or equivalent free-viewing language.
- Sign in with an Apple Account when prompted.
- Confirm the listing again before kickoff, because schedules and access labels can change.
This is best treated as free-match hunting, not as a substitute for the season package. MLS has previously promoted entire matchdays as free with only an Apple Account, but an earlier-season promotion does not establish that every 2026 matchday—or any specific future match—will be free.
If the match page asks you to begin a subscription or shows only a trial offer, it is not a free Apple ID stream. Do not assume that having an Apple Account alone unlocks the entire schedule.
3. Use an antenna for FOX-broadcast matches
In the United States, FOX’s 2026 MLS schedule includes 15 regular-season matches on the FOX broadcast network and 19 on FS1. The FOX network games are the over-the-air opportunity: if your local FOX affiliate carries the scheduled match and your antenna receives that station, you can watch without a pay-TV subscription.
Practical antenna setup
If FOX is available over the air in your area, an indoor HDTV antenna may let you watch FOX-broadcast MLS matches without a pay-TV subscription. Check reception at your address before buying, and remember that an antenna will not carry Apple TV-exclusive games.

- A television with a built-in digital tuner, or a compatible tuner for your display or streaming setup.
- A local FOX affiliate that is carrying the match.
- A strong enough signal for reliable reception.
Reception varies substantially. Distance from the broadcast tower, terrain, nearby buildings, interior walls, building materials, antenna placement, and local affiliate coverage can all affect the result. An indoor antenna may work well in one neighborhood and poorly in another. A signal check or local broadcast-coverage tool is more useful than assuming that every antenna receives FOX equally well.

FOX is not the same as FS1
An antenna generally does not provide FS1. It also does not unlock matches shown only through Apple TV. Check the FOX Sports schedule for the exact network assignment before relying on an antenna, because broadcast schedules can change.
The practical rule is:
An antenna can cover the MLS games that FOX broadcasts in your area. It will not provide the complete MLS schedule, Apple TV exclusives, FS1 games, or Apple TV-exclusive playoff coverage.
Do you need an Apple TV box?
No. An Apple TV 4K box is optional, not a requirement for either the trial or a designated free match.

If your television already has the Apple TV app, you can use that. Otherwise, you can watch on a computer or phone, or connect a supported device to the TV. An Apple TV 4K streaming device can be a convenient living-room option, but buying one does not create free access and is unnecessary if you already have a compatible smart TV or streaming device.
Which method should you choose?
- You want one weekend or a short run of matches: Check whether you qualify for the seven-day Apple TV trial, then cancel before renewal if you do not want to continue.
- You want to avoid starting a paid subscription: Look for a match explicitly labeled Free in the live MLS or Apple TV schedule.
- You want recurring access to selected broadcast games: Check FOX’s schedule and use an antenna if your local FOX affiliate and reception make the games available.
- You want every MLS match with no blackouts: The official 2026 route is an Apple TV subscription. The free options do not provide a permanent all-season replacement.
Common problems and fixes
The trial does not appear
Your account may not qualify because it has used a previous trial, already has an active subscription, or is being shown a different regional offer. Check the offer while signed in and read the eligibility and renewal terms. Do not create duplicate accounts simply to chase a promotion.
A supposedly free match asks for payment
Return to the live listing and verify the label. Free access can be limited to selected matches or promotional windows. A historical free-match promotion does not make all games free, and a trial prompt is not the same as a no-cost Apple Account stream.
The antenna finds channels but not FOX
Rescan for channels after connecting the antenna, try a higher or less obstructed position, and verify that a FOX affiliate serves your market. If the affiliate is too distant or blocked by terrain and buildings, an indoor antenna may not be sufficient. An antenna cannot solve a rights or network-assignment issue: it will not show an FS1 or Apple TV-only match.
The stream stutters on a Windows computer
First check the browser and operating-system updates, close unnecessary background processes, confirm available storage and memory, and test the network connection. Try the supported Apple TV website or app on another compatible device to determine whether the issue is local to the PC, browser, or connection. Do not assume that a computer utility can improve the MLS service itself, bypass restrictions, or guarantee better picture quality.

Stay with official sources
Avoid unofficial stream aggregators, unauthorized IPTV services, mirror sites, and VPN-based attempts to circumvent regional rights. They can be unstable, expose viewers to malicious advertising or downloads, and do not represent legitimate MLS access. The supported free routes are the Apple TV trial, matches explicitly designated free by MLS or Apple, and FOX broadcasts received through a local over-the-air signal.
