The standout release for the June 27–29, 2025 weekend was Squid Game season 3 on Netflix, but it was not the only major option. The lineup also included The Bear season 4, Marvel’s Ironheart, Apple TV+’s crime thriller Smoke, Prime Video’s Countdown, Hulu’s surreal drama The Actor, and Jason Statham’s action film A Working Man. This is a historical, U.S.-oriented release guide; availability and pricing should be rechecked for your market.
Note on the date: This is a historical weekend guide for June 27–29, 2025, not a current August 2026 streaming schedule. The recommendations below reflect the releases and platform availability reported for that weekend; catalogs, rights, prices, and trials can change by country and over time.
The biggest release was Squid Game season 3, Netflix’s conclusion to its global survival drama. But the weekend also brought the fourth season of The Bear, Marvel’s Ironheart, the crime thriller Smoke, and several film and action options. Here are seven notable movies and shows to stream, ranked by their likely appeal and cultural impact at the time.
1. Squid Game season 3 — Netflix
Best for: viewers looking for the weekend’s major event release.

Squid Game season 3 premiered exclusively on Netflix on June 27, 2025. It was announced as the third and final season, continuing Gi-hun’s struggle inside the deadly competition and the Front Man’s control of the games.
The final-season status makes this the clearest choice for anyone who wanted a definitive continuation of one of Netflix’s biggest international hits. It is also the recommendation most likely to dominate conversation, although viewers who have not finished the earlier seasons should start there to avoid major spoilers.
Release format: The complete final season was released on June 27, 2025. Availability outside the United States may differ.
Optional fan note: Readers looking for Squid Game merchandise should check the seller, licensing information, inventory, and price carefully. Netflix documented official and licensed merchandise activity around the season, but a particular retail listing should not be assumed to be official without verification.
2. The Bear season 4 — Hulu
Best for: viewers who prefer character-driven drama, workplace pressure, and an intense ensemble cast.
Season 4 of The Bear returned Carmy, Sydney, Richie, and the restaurant team to a precarious situation. The restaurant remains under financial pressure, Uncle Jimmy is losing patience, and the consequences of a critical review are looming over the group.
Unlike a conventional cooking show, The Bear uses the restaurant as a pressure cooker for questions about ambition, loyalty, control, and whether a talented team can survive its own internal conflicts. It is the strongest pick here for viewers who want emotional friction rather than a simple genre hook.

Best for: Marvel viewers who want advanced technology, magic, and a new lead character.
Marvel’s Ironheart follows Riri Williams, a brilliant inventor who returns to Chicago and becomes entangled in danger after developing iron suits. Her technological abilities put her in conflict with Parker Robbins, also known as the Hood, whose supernatural powers create the series’ central technology-versus-magic tension.
The Disney+ series premiered on June 24, 2025. Episodes 1–3 were released together at launch, giving viewers a substantial starting point before the remaining episodes. That rollout detail belongs to the original 2025 release and should not be treated as a current schedule.
Ironheart is the best option in this list for viewers who want a connection to the wider Marvel universe but are also interested in a more focused story about invention, identity, and Riri’s life in Chicago.

4. Smoke — Apple TV+
Best for: viewers who prefer a slow-burn investigation to a broad action series.

Apple’s crime thriller Smoke centers on an arson investigator who reluctantly works with a police detective while they pursue two arsonists. The investigation is complicated by secrets, suspicion, and the possibility that the people involved may not be telling the full truth.
Taron Egerton and Jurnee Smollett lead the cast. The series is built around investigation and atmosphere, making it a better match for viewers who enjoy methodical crime dramas than for anyone seeking nonstop action.
The first two episodes were available when the show was covered in June 2025. Apple’s listing classifies Smoke as a 2025 thriller and crime series and includes mature-content advisories, so check the rating and warnings before watching with younger viewers.
5. Countdown — Prime Video
Best for: viewers looking for a familiar, high-concept crime thriller with a weekly-release structure.
Jensen Ackles stars as LAPD detective Mark Meachum, who is recruited into a secret task force after a Homeland Security officer is killed. The series uses that setup to build a law-enforcement conspiracy and action-thriller storyline.
Countdown premiered on Prime Video on June 25, 2025, with three episodes. New episodes then arrived weekly, leading to a scheduled finale on September 3. That makes it distinct from the weekend’s full-season drops: it was the choice for viewers who wanted an ongoing weekly series rather than an entire story to binge immediately.

The June 2025 rollout should not be presented as a current Prime Video schedule. Release patterns and availability can vary by territory.

6. The Actor — Hulu
Best for: viewers who enjoy identity mysteries, existential drama, and deliberately unusual premises.
In The Actor, New York actor Paul Cole wakes up in a mysterious small town without knowing who he is or how he got there. The film’s premise points toward a more surreal and reflective experience than a conventional thriller.
André Holland, Gemma Chan, and May Calamawy are listed in the cast, with Duke Johnson credited as director. This is the most offbeat film recommendation in the group: a better fit for viewers willing to sit with ambiguity and questions about identity than for anyone seeking a straightforward rescue or revenge plot.
Hulu’s official listing identifies The Actor as a 2025 drama. Because streaming rights change, check the current Hulu catalog in your region rather than relying on the historical weekend listing.

Best for: viewers who want an uncomplicated Jason Statham action vehicle.
Jason Statham plays Levon Cade, a construction foreman with a military past. When his boss’s daughter goes missing, Cade sets out to find her and becomes caught up with the Russian mob.
The setup delivers a familiar rescue-and-revenge framework, making A Working Man the easiest recommendation for viewers who want direct action rather than an elaborate mystery or ensemble drama. It is also the most conventional choice in the roundup: the appeal rests primarily on Statham’s physical, determined action-hero persona.
MGM+ maintains the official title listing. This recommendation belongs to the June 2025 weekend and should not be described as a new 2026 release.

Before you watch
- Check your country: The original roundup was aimed at a U.S. audience. Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, Apple TV+, Prime Video, and MGM+ do not offer identical catalogs everywhere.
- Check the current catalog: “Streaming now” was accurate in the original June 2025 publication context, not necessarily today.
- Check the release model: Squid Game season 3 and The Bear season 4 were discussed as full-season releases, while Countdown launched with three episodes and continued weekly.
- Check content advisories: Several recommendations involve violence, crime, danger, or mature themes. Apple’s listing for Smoke, in particular, includes mature-content advisories.
