You can use FFmpeg on a VPS to send a prerecorded Marathi-music programme to YouTube, but a dependable 24/7 setup needs more than a working encoder command: you must secure the music rights, configure YouTube’s ingest settings, keep the process supervised, and plan for stream interruptions. YouTube documents the Live Control Room and encoder requirements; the exact FFmpeg loop, reconnect, and restart implementation depends on your files and server and is not established by those instructions.
Before you start: confirm that you may stream the music
Technical ability to send a song to YouTube is not permission to broadcast it. A Marathi playlist may contain separate rights in the musical compositions and in the sound recordings. Before putting recordings into a 24/7 stream, confirm that you have the necessary rights for the specific tracks, territories, and continuous live retransmission. A subscription that lets you listen to music does not, by itself, establish permission to retransmit it.
The material available for this guide does not determine which licences apply to any particular Marathi recording, nor how a rights holder or YouTube may handle a claim during a live broadcast. Do not treat the absence of an immediate block as proof that the stream is authorized. If you cannot establish the rights, use music for which you have documented streaming permission or do not broadcast the recordings.
What the VPS workflow involves
A VPS is a remote server that stays available independently of your home computer. In this setup, FFmpeg reads your prepared audio and video programme and sends an encoded live feed to the ingest address YouTube provides. YouTube’s Live Control Room creates or schedules the broadcast and supplies the server URL and stream key. The key authorizes the encoder to send to that stream; treat it like a password.

- Prepare the programme. Organize only rights-cleared recordings and the visual material you intend to show. Decide how the audio and video are to repeat, how transitions should work, and what should happen if a file is missing or ends unexpectedly.
- Set up a VPS and FFmpeg. Install a suitable FFmpeg build and configure the server to access the media files. Before choosing a server, check its sustained CPU allowance, outbound bandwidth charges or limits, region, and service terms. The requirements depend on the actual video output and encoding mode; the available YouTube settings do not establish a VPS size or a reliable server plan.
- Create the YouTube broadcast. In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or schedule a stream. First-time live streaming may take up to 24 hours to become available. Copy the ingest server URL and stream key shown for your stream. YouTube creates a watch page when the encoder starts sending content.
- Configure FFmpeg to send the programme. Use the exact ingest address displayed for the broadcast, not an address copied from someone else’s setup. YouTube recommends RTMPS, its encrypted ingest option; its encoder implementation guidance specifies TLS over port 443 and SNI. The RTMPS URL and connection details must match the endpoint YouTube displays. Never put a real stream key in a public script, screenshot, article, or shared log.
- Test before making it continuous. Start with a representative section that includes the expected audio and visual movement. Check that YouTube receives the stream, that audio is present and in sync, and that the Live Control Room reports healthy stream input. YouTube specifically recommends testing with audio and movement similar to the planned broadcast.
- Monitor the live session. Watch the Live Control Room’s stream health and messages while testing and during operation. A process that is running on the VPS is not, by itself, proof that YouTube is receiving a healthy stream.
Encoder settings that matter
Choose settings for the actual output you send, rather than assuming a single bitrate is right for every music stream. YouTube’s encoder guidance, current page accessed October 3, 2026, lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1, up to 60 fps. It recommends constant bitrate (CBR), a two-second keyframe interval, and says the interval should not exceed four seconds. Its bitrate recommendations vary by resolution, frame rate, and codec.

For a music-led stream, a static or lightly animated visual may require less video detail than fast-moving footage, but do not invent a lower guaranteed bitrate from that assumption. Select a supported output mode, test it over the VPS’s real network path, and monitor YouTube’s health indicators.

What makes a 24/7 FFmpeg setup different
A one-time start is not a continuity plan. The collected YouTube guidance covers creating a stream, sending an encoder feed, testing, monitoring, and ending the broadcast by stopping encoder output. It does not prescribe a 24/7 FFmpeg playlist command, looping flags, crossfade behavior, reconnect settings, a systemd service, or a restart schedule. Those details must be implemented and tested against the FFmpeg version, media files, and VPS you actually use; do not copy an unverified command and assume it will recover cleanly.
- Playlist and file behavior: Verify how your chosen FFmpeg input handles playlist order, end-of-file, repeat behavior, missing files, different audio formats, and transitions. Confirm that the audio does not stop at a track boundary.
- Process supervision: Arrange for an administrator-controlled supervisor to detect a stopped encoder and apply a deliberate recovery policy. Test the recovery path rather than assuming that starting FFmpeg once will keep it alive indefinitely.
- Network and ingest recovery: Test what happens when the VPS loses connectivity or YouTube stops accepting the feed. Confirm whether your process reconnects, whether YouTube still considers the broadcast active, and what manual action is needed when it does not.
- Secrets and logs: Keep the stream key out of source repositories and public logs. Restrict server access and rotate the key in YouTube if it is exposed.
- Long-session operations: YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours are automatically archived. That is an archive boundary, not a documented maximum broadcast length, nor a recommendation for how to divide a 24/7 schedule. The guidance here does not establish what happens to longer archives or a reliable session restart strategy.

Budget and operational trade-offs
A self-managed VPS gives you control of the server and encoder configuration, but you are responsible for FFmpeg setup, bandwidth and compute costs, process supervision, monitoring, updates, and recovery. No VPS provider, price, resource size, or comparative uptime is established here; compare providers using their current sustained-bitrate policies, bandwidth billing, CPU allowance, region, and uptime terms before committing.

That listing establishes it as a possible managed approach, not that it supports every Marathi music workflow, that a particular use is licensed, or that its price or reliability is preferable. Confirm its current capabilities and terms directly before choosing it.
