You can stream Gurbani continuously from a Windows PC by looping a local audio or video source in OBS, connecting OBS to a YouTube Live stream with the stream URL and key from YouTube Studio, and keeping the PC, OBS, source, and internet connection running. This guide covers setup, sustainable encoder settings, uptime, copyright, and what to expect from YouTube’s archive.
Before you start: prepare YouTube and your media
Enable live streaming and create a stream
In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or schedule a stream using the encoder option. YouTube says first-time live-stream activation may take up to 24 hours, so enable it in advance. Scheduling creates a watch page that you can share before the broadcast. The current Live Control Room flow and labels can change, so follow the prompts shown in your account. YouTube’s encoder-streaming instructions explain the setup.
Choose the exact recording and visual
Have the Gurbani recording ready as a local audio or video file, and prepare a still image or other visual if the broadcast needs one. Use only recordings and artwork you have permission to broadcast. A devotional subject does not by itself make a recording or image free to use; rights depend on the particular recording, composition, owner, license, and territory.
Build a looping scene in OBS
Loop one local file
- In OBS, create or select a scene for the broadcast.
- In the Sources panel, choose + and add a Media Source. Name it clearly, such as “Gurbani recording.”
- In the Media Source properties, enable Local File and browse to the audio or video file.
- Enable Loop, then confirm the source plays and restarts when it reaches the end.
- Add the visual source, such as an image you have rights to use. Check the preview to confirm the visual and audio are both present.

Loop a playlist of files
For multiple recordings, add a VLC Video source and build a playlist in its properties; enable Loop Playlist if you want the list to repeat. VLC must be installed. If you run 64-bit OBS, OBS documents that the matching 64-bit VLC build is required. Test the transition between files before going live so you can catch gaps, unexpected visuals, or silence.
Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- In YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, open the stream’s encoder settings and locate the stream URL and stream key.
- In OBS, open Settings > Stream. Select YouTube if it is offered, then connect the account or enter the stream key as prompted. If configuring a custom service, use the URL and key displayed by YouTube Studio.
- Click Apply and OK, then select Start Streaming in OBS.
- Return to the Live Control Room and wait for the incoming preview and stream health information. For a scheduled broadcast, complete YouTube’s go-live step in Studio when prompted.
Treat the stream key like a password: it authorizes an encoder to send video to your stream. Do not publish or share it. If it is exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio and update OBS with the new key. YouTube’s encoder setup guidance describes the stream URL and key.

Choose video and bitrate settings that your connection can sustain
There is no single bitrate that suits every stream. Test your upload speed and choose a mode your stable upstream connection can maintain, leaving room for ordinary network variation. YouTube recommends testing upload bitrate, using CBR, setting a two-second keyframe interval (not exceeding four seconds), and using RTMPS where available. These are platform recommendations, not a guarantee that a particular home connection will sustain a stream.

These figures are examples from YouTube Help’s encoder settings table; its publication year is not stated, and the recommended value varies by codec, resolution, and frame rate. Check the current YouTube encoder settings table when configuring your stream rather than treating an example as universal. For a mostly static devotional visual, a lower-resolution mode may be sufficient, but select settings based on YouTube’s current guidance and what your upload connection can reliably sustain.

Before a public broadcast, run a test with representative audio and visuals. Check the preview, audio level, stream health, and whether the source loops as expected. YouTube recommends testing the stream before going live and monitoring stream health.
Keep a Windows-based stream running
A “24/7” broadcast is continuous only while the necessary parts keep working: the PC stays powered, Windows does not interrupt the session, OBS remains open and streaming, the media source keeps playing, and the network stays available. The official setup guidance does not guarantee uninterrupted operation on any particular PC or connection.

- Use a wired Ethernet connection if Wi-Fi instability is causing dropped frames; OBS recommends wired networking for streaming stability.
- Make sure Windows power settings will not put the PC to sleep during the broadcast. Avoid unexpected restarts or shutdowns while OBS is live.
- Keep the media file in a stable local location and verify that the source is still playing after setup.
- Monitor OBS and YouTube’s stream health, especially after launch or any network or system change.
If frames are dropping, lower the bitrate to a level your stable upload can sustain, then check the connection and server status using the OBS dropped-frames troubleshooting guide. Wi-Fi is not automatically unusable, but if it is the source of instability, switching to Ethernet may help; there is no need to buy a cable if your PC already has reliable wired connectivity.

YouTube’s archive is not a substitute for a full-length recording
YouTube Help says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. The cited guidance does not promise a complete archive for one uninterrupted stream longer than 12 hours. If you need a complete recording, plan a separate recording or archive workflow and verify current YouTube behavior before relying on the platform archive. YouTube’s live-stream archive guidance covers its stated archive behavior.

Confirm rights for the exact Gurbani recording
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A detected match can cause a placeholder to appear, interrupt the stream, or terminate it. Even if you have a license, the rights holder may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist for the live broadcast to proceed without interruption. Confirm permission for the exact audio recording and any visuals with the relevant rights holder; the devotional nature of the material does not establish that you may rebroadcast it.
