To stream a church service playlist from a computer, create a YouTube Live event, then send the playlist’s audio and video through either YouTube’s webcam flow or encoder software such as OBS. Use the webcam path for a simple camera stream; use an encoder when you need to combine a playlist with a service feed, overlays, or other audio and video inputs. Before the service, test the complete setup and confirm that you have permission for every song and recording in the playlist.
Choose the computer streaming method
YouTube offers two main computer routes: streaming with a webcam through Live Control Room, or sending a feed from encoder software. The choice affects production and audio routing, but neither method grants music rights.

Check channel access and prepare the event
- Confirm eligibility. The channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. YouTube’s computer streaming guidance explains the requirement.
- Choose webcam or encoder. Decide how the camera, playlist, microphone, and any other service audio will enter the stream. For an encoder, use YouTube’s current Live Control Room instructions to create or schedule the event and connect the encoder.
- Prepare the playlist source. Identify every item and test its audio path. If the playlist is a local player, confirm that its output is captured by the webcam setup or routed into the encoder mix; mute notifications and unrelated computer audio.
- Run a complete test. Use an unlisted or otherwise suitable test event, and check both the Live Control Room preview and what a viewer would hear. YouTube recommends testing before the event.
For an encoder, YouTube recommends allowing at least two hours for setup and starting the encoder at least 15 minutes before the scheduled event. These are preparation recommendations, not guarantees of a successful stream. Follow YouTube’s streaming tips for the current guidance.

Check upload bandwidth and monitor the stream
Measure the computer’s upload capacity, not just its download speed. YouTube recommends keeping 20% upload-bandwidth headroom above the stream bitrate. For example, if the outgoing stream uses 5 Mbps, plan for at least 6 Mbps of available upload capacity under the conditions in which you will stream. Other devices using the same connection can reduce the bandwidth available during the service.
- Use a wired connection where practical and pause large uploads or downloads on the network.
- Check the encoder’s outgoing bitrate and make sure the connection can sustain it with the recommended headroom.
- During the service, watch the encoder status and Live Control Room preview; listen for missing, distorted, or unexpectedly quiet playlist audio.

Clear the playlist for livestreaming
Permission to perform a song live and permission to stream a recording of it are not interchangeable. Before the service, inventory each playlist item and classify it as a live performance, master recording, backing track, or other third-party material. Check the actual rights, platform, territory, and whether the stream will remain available as an archive.
- Live church performance: CCLI describes its Streaming Licence as covering participating songs performed in church services, subject to its terms. Its summary calls for checking songs against covered catalogs and displaying a copyright notice with the song title, writer credits, copyright notice, and licence number, either in the stream or video description.
- Master recordings and tracks: CCLI says Streaming Plus extends coverage to specified authorized master recordings and tracks, subject to covered-label and recording checks and limitations. Do not assume that a purchased track or an ordinary church music licence permits YouTube streaming.
- Other uses: CCLI says use of recordings outside the context of church services requires additional permission. A song-planning service is not, by itself, a streaming licence.

YouTube’s livestream terms say the creator represents that they have the necessary rights for live content, including music licensing rights. A licence does not ensure that YouTube’s automated systems will leave a stream uninterrupted: YouTube scans live streams for third-party matches and may show a placeholder, temporarily interrupt the stream, or terminate it if detected material remains. YouTube says a creator with permission may need to ask the rights holder to add the channel to its Content ID allowlist. Archived livestreams may receive Content ID claims after the event ends. Troubleshoot common problems
