You can’t turn an unlisted YouTube playlist into a 24/7 live broadcast just by sharing its link. A playlist organizes videos; a live stream needs an encoder to send an authorized video feed to a YouTube broadcast. To run an animated channel continuously, prepare the videos and rights, configure a broadcast in YouTube’s Live Control Room, then use an encoder that can play and loop the feed. You can run that encoder locally or use a cloud service such as StreamNeo.
What an unlisted playlist can—and cannot—do
A playlist is a way to organize videos. It is not itself a live encoder or broadcast. YouTube’s Live Streaming API distinguishes the stream sent by a channel from the broadcast event viewers watch; its documentation does not describe an unlisted playlist as a way to create a continuous live feed.
That means a playlist link alone will not make the videos play as a 24/7 YouTube Live channel. You need an authorized feed of the videos and an encoder that sends that feed to a broadcast. The encoder might run on a computer you operate or in a hosted environment.
“Unlisted” is also not the same as password-protected. People with the direct link can view an unlisted item and share that link with others. Choose the visibility setting for the audience you actually intend to reach.

Before you set up the live channel
Confirm that you have the rights
Make sure you have permission for continuous live transmission of every animation, music track, voice recording, and other element in the feed. Check rights for replay or video-on-demand use as well if you plan to archive or upload recordings. YouTube’s production guidance says creators should confirm rights for both live transmission and video on demand. Copyright matches or policy actions can restrict live access.
Decide whether the content is made for kids
Set the audience designation accurately in YouTube Studio. Animation alone does not determine whether content is made for kids; consider the intended audience and the content itself. YouTube may override a designation in cases of error or abuse.

For a live stream set as made for kids, YouTube disables features including live chat, comments, notifications, and personalized ads. Do not plan programming or revenue around features that will not be available. YouTube says contextual ads may still be shown, but personalized advertising is disabled.
Check that the channel can go live
Confirm the account is enabled for live streaming and has no active restriction. YouTube’s production guide says initial live activation may take up to 24 hours. Missing live permissions can also prevent a broadcast from being created or started.

Set up a continuous YouTube Live broadcast
- Prepare the video feed. Gather only videos you are authorized to stream. Decide their order and how the feed will repeat. A playlist may help organize source videos, but the encoder—not the playlist link—must play the material and send it as a live feed.
- Choose where the encoder will run. For a local setup, use a computer that can stay on and run the encoder continuously. A computer is not a YouTube requirement in itself; it is one way to operate the encoder. A hosted setup can run the playout elsewhere. YouTube’s published production guidance does not establish a specific computer model, minimum processor or graphics card, bitrate, bandwidth, encoder preset, or uptime guarantee for this use case.
- Create a broadcast in YouTube Studio. Open Live Control Room and provide the broadcast title and description. Choose visibility and configure applicable options such as audience designation and embedding. If you select unlisted, anyone with the direct URL may pass it along.
- Configure the encoder with the stream key. In the broadcast setup, obtain the stream key and enter it in the encoder. Treat the key like a credential: do not publish it or give it to anyone who should not be able to send video to your channel.
- Start sending the feed and check the preview. Start the encoder so it sends video to YouTube. Confirm that the preview appears and that the correct material is playing before you start the broadcast for viewers.
- Start the broadcast and monitor it. Go live in YouTube after confirming the feed. Keep an eye on both the YouTube broadcast and the encoder; the reviewed YouTube guidance does not promise uninterrupted 24/7 operation or specify a failover system.
- Plan recording and recovery separately. A 2025 YouTube production PDF says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived and that longer streams should be recorded by the team for manual upload. This is guidance in that PDF, not a guarantee of current account behavior; verify what YouTube Studio currently does before relying on it. The PDF does not specify automatic playlist looping or restart behavior, so plan those separately.
Unlisted, private, or public: choose based on access

Children’s content, embeds, and API clients
If you embed YouTube content on a child-directed website, YouTube’s guidance says the site must self-designate through YouTube’s tools, including when using the Privacy Enhanced Mode player. Check YouTube’s current guidance before implementing an embed.
If you build a child-directed website, app, or API client that uses YouTube’s API, additional requirements apply. YouTube’s API developer policies require child-directed API clients to comply with applicable laws and notify Google using its tools; they also limit certain write-based API actions by those clients. These obligations are separate from simply streaming your own videos through an encoder.

Common problems and what to check
- The playlist plays for viewers, but there is no live broadcast. A playlist does not send a live feed. Configure an encoder to play the authorized videos and send them to a YouTube broadcast.
- The encoder cannot connect. Check that live streaming is enabled for the channel, that there is no active restriction, and that the encoder has the correct stream key. If live access was just enabled, YouTube’s production guide says activation may take up to 24 hours.
- The preview is missing or shows the wrong material. Confirm that the encoder is running, is using the intended feed, and is configured with the key for the broadcast you created. Check the preview before going live.
- Viewers cannot chat or comment. If the stream is correctly set as made for kids, YouTube disables live chat and comments, among other features. Do not try to design the channel around those features being available.
- The stream is removed or live access is restricted. Review copyright permissions and YouTube policy notices. YouTube says an active live-stream restriction cannot be bypassed by using another channel.
- A long stream has no replay archive. The 2025 production PDF warns that streams longer than 12 hours should be recorded by the team for manual upload. Check current Studio behavior and maintain your own recording plan if a replay matters.
- The channel stops when the local computer or connection stops. In a local setup, the encoder depends on the equipment and connection operating. YouTube’s reviewed guidance does not provide a 24/7 uptime or failover guarantee; decide how you will monitor and restart the feed.
