You can keep a temple’s aarti and bhajans on YouTube around the clock with either a locally maintained encoder or a cloud playlist service. Before scheduling anything, clear the rights to both the recordings and the underlying music, then test the stream and assign someone to respond to YouTube warnings or interruptions. A religious setting alone does not establish that every recording is cleared for continuous online broadcast.

Clear the recordings and music before building the playlist

Make a rights inventory
- List every item that will be audible: each bhajan and aarti recording, instrumental track, background bed, and incidental music.
- For each item, note the recording owner and, where known, the owner or administrator of the composition and lyrics. They may be different parties.
- Separate material the temple owns or has created from third-party recordings. Buying a copy or having permission to play a recording in person does not itself establish permission to rebroadcast it continuously online.
Get permission for the actual use
For third-party material, request written authorization that covers continuous public streaming on YouTube, the territories where the stream may be viewed, the intended term, monetization if planned, and whether YouTube’s archive or replay is covered. Ask the relevant rights owner whether it uses Content ID and whether it needs to add the temple channel to an allowlist. Keep the written permissions and any allowlist confirmation with the channel’s operating records.

Do not treat the religious-ceremony wording as blanket clearance
The Indian Copyright Office page reproduces Section 52(1)(za), which refers to “the performance of a literary, dramatic or musical work or the communication to the public of such work or of a sound recording in the course of any bona fide religious ceremony or an official ceremony held by the Central Government or the State Government or any local authority.” That wording does not, by itself, settle whether a continuous YouTube channel broadcast qualifies or whether a particular recording’s multiple rights layers are cleared. Have an India-qualified copyright professional assess the temple’s actual format and repertoire before relying on this provision.

Local encoder
A local encoder sends the chosen audio and visual feed to YouTube. This can be a computer-based or dedicated encoder setup, but the available guidance establishes encoders as a general webcast equipment category, not as a mandatory YouTube hardware purchase. The temple remains responsible for keeping the encoder, power, internet connection, and stream monitoring in place. Confirm the encoder’s compatibility with the current options shown in YouTube Studio and in the device documentation; do not assume settings from another webcast service are YouTube requirements.
Set up the YouTube stream and playlist
- Prepare cleared source material. Put only owned or authorized recordings in the playlist. Use an accompanying visual the temple is entitled to show, such as an authorized devotional image or a suitable temple visual. Check that no unreviewed music is embedded in the video itself.
- Decide whether to use a local encoder or cloud playout. For a local encoder, prepare a continuous audio-and-visual feed and keep the equipment and connection available for the full broadcast. For a cloud playlist, upload the video files and arrange the sequence in the service.
- Create or schedule the live broadcast in YouTube Studio. Use YouTube Studio’s current live-stream workflow and follow the prompts for the channel. Labels and eligibility steps can change, so confirm them in Studio at setup time rather than relying on an old walkthrough.
- Connect the encoder or service using the stream key. Copy the key shown for the intended broadcast into the encoder or hosted service. Treat it like a password: do not publish it or share it outside the people responsible for operating the stream. If it is exposed, replace or reset it through the channel’s current live-stream controls and update the sending service.
- Check the actual stream before making it public. Rehearse with a private test where available. Verify that audio is present and clean, the visual is correct, the playlist advances and loops as intended, and YouTube Studio shows the expected incoming feed. A test does not establish rights; all test content should also be cleared.
- Start the broadcast and monitor it. Confirm that the public YouTube watch page plays correctly. Assign a named volunteer or staff member to check Studio for warnings and to respond to stream failures, especially during the first run and after playlist or encoder changes.
Use settings shown for your own encoder and YouTube account
Do not copy a bitrate, resolution, frame rate, keyframe interval, or protocol from an unrelated webcast setup and assume it is a YouTube requirement. The appropriate values depend on the encoder, source material, network, and the current YouTube Studio guidance. Use the current settings YouTube presents for the broadcast and select settings the sending device can sustain reliably. A steady, tested feed is more useful than choosing a higher resolution that the source or connection cannot maintain.

Plan for continuous operation and interruptions
A 24/7 schedule needs an operating plan, not just a playlist. Write down who checks the live dashboard, who can access the channel and encoder or hosted account, how a stream will be restarted, and how volunteers will contact one another if the assigned operator is unavailable. Keep a copy of the rights inventory and permissions accessible to the people who handle claims.
